Title: Now, whom to buy a MAK 2 Star from?
Post by: BlackC5 on June 22, 2016, 04:06:07 PM
I spoke with MAK Grills today.  Since there are NO dealers in Florida currently selling a MAK and the closest to me is 500 miles away up in Georgia, my choices are to buy directly from MAK Grills, Big Poppas or Yard & Pools.  All of these vendors get raving reviews.  I have looked at each site to see if one offers a better deal.  Prices are listed as either $2,499 or $2,599 including free or $100 flat rate shipping.  Does anyone know if any of these sellers throw in anything extra, not listed, that does not already come packaged and included with a MAK 2 Star?  What I see is saving $100, if I decide to not buy from the manufacturer.  Yes, saving a hundred dollars is saving a hundred dollars and probably what I may end up doing but respectfully, please enlighten me if I have missed something in my search.  Thanks

Big Poppas is a nice outfit to deal with. They also have some great rubs under their name as well as the Simply Marvelous line-up. I think Big Poppas might offer an easy pay program on the Mak..................

I bought mine from Big Poppa a number of years ago.  I still order some specific rubs from them.

I bought mine from BP. You can always ask to throw in some rubs. Mak through in sauce and rubs with each unit. Not sure if they still do that.

I can attest to the fact that Big Poppa Smokers customer service is as good as it gets, as good as MAK's.  They will take their time with you and make sure you get what you want.  I've been a BP customer since early 2010, before they even had a forum.

Not sure how Yard and Pool is, but they have a couple of things:

1) 2599 for the starter kit which includes a cover, 40lb of pellets, some rubs/ seasonings and wipes.

2) Sign up for their newsletter and you save 5%.

Price would be :  $2469

I am in Maryland and it was on sale, not sure if it would be where you are nor do I have info on shipping.  Just an FYI

I bought mine from Y&P and was completely satisfied.  The extra 5% off was nice and the customer service from George was great.

Both Yard and Pool and Big Poppa Smokers are excellent companies to work with!

Just wanted to let you know, however, that the 5% off coupon mentioned for Yard and Pool doesn't apply to MAK products.   We ask that all of our dealers honor the same price for our grills and accessories.

You might get some extra goodies from one company or the other, but the price of the grill and accessories will be the same whomever you buy from.

Based on what Kat said...Why not buy directly from MAK?

1. One less layer to got thru....in the event you need assistance with anything MAK related. :)

2. MAK *IS* a forum sponsor here..... ;)

Neither Big Pappa nor Yard and Pool are sponsors of LTBBQ.

That is a good reason right there to buy from MAC
Also, as was said, eliminate a layer and work direct with the manufacture.

I bought my Memphis through Amazon because I wanted to take advantage of the no interest financing they offer. When laying down 2K it is much easier to handle with payments. But if they did not have that option I would have purchased direct.

If either BP or Y&P offer that then I say go with it. Much easier to make monthly payments interest free than all at once. Otherwise get it from them directly. MAK has been a great friend to our forum and people like Kat are a prime example of that.

Thank you so very much everyone.  All four vendors mentioned, MAK Grills, Big Poppas, Yard and Pool and Amazon sound like great places to buy from.  My question has been answered extremely well.  I want to mention right off that my choice, thanks to every reply I have gotten from our LTBBQAM forum, will be a MAK 2 Star General.  I equate buying a MAK or Memphis or Yoder or Fast Eddy to buying a new vehicle.  Thinking you could perhaps haggle the price or options.  If there is pretty much no difference in price and only $100 potentially saved via free shipping (not meaning to sound like I have money because I do not, I still have to work for a living) I would probably forgo the $100 free shipping incentive and chose to buy direct from the MAK Grills manufacturer.  I am an "OEM" kinda guy.  My vehicles parts for example, are only OEM.  Not trying to say that is the right way, only saying that is the way for me.  I have looked at BP, Y&P and Amazon.  I am sure I will be ordering pellets, sauce, rubs etc from each of them but my Smoker/Grill will be coming from MAK Grills.  I sincerely hope my choice does not offend anyone.  It would bother my conscience if I have.  Heck, if I was a billionaire like Donald Trump or Bill Gates, I would buy a pellet grill from each of them for equal support.

Like Tee said. Mak supports our forum. Great job on supporting them. You won't believe the quality product they build

I would not worry about that at all.... We are really not-brand specific, or cooker type specific here. Everyone picks the tools that fit their needs and wants - and tries to find ways to make the most of them. That is just part of the fun.

Seriously - if a person wants to join us here - and they only cook on a hot rock by a campfire - and are wiling to show and tell us how/what they are doing...they are just as welcome as someone spending a gazillion dollars on the newest most technically sophisticated grill.

But I think you have made a great choice tho I am a bit jaded as a fellow MAK 2 Str owner.... ;D
