Title: Pam and Y'All made me do to (well that's what I told Sweetie)
Post by: Savannahsmoker on January 23, 2017, 06:39:39 PM
Was picking up Rib Eyes at Sams today and saw an open box price of $59 for for the Power AirFryer XL  5.3 cu ft. 1700 watts.
Thought of Pam's post and following replies and said heck ya as we are having Cornish Hen tonight and it's nasty weather outside.

Put it in the inside/outside cooking area (Sweetie's Name).

Cornish Hen in 20 minutes coming out of the AirFryer.

Very moist
(http://i547.photobucket.com/albums/hh471/Savannahsmoker/Air%20Fryer/20165-1-23%20AirFryel%20Cornhish%20Hen%209_zpsvtkwdo4u.jpg) (http://s547.photobucket.com/user/Savannahsmoker/media/Air%20Fryer/20165-1-23%20AirFryel%20Cornhish%20Hen%209_zpsvtkwdo4u.jpg.html)

Bottom Line:  "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner"
If it roasts a whole chicken as well as the hen, well than it is a keeper and next roast will decide.
It is very convenient.
Pulled out the outer basket and carried it to caring board.  Less mess.
Was able to wash and dry the basket and outer basket while the hen rested under foil so clean up is a big plus.

So far thanks, all y'all. :)

Well after about 24 hours and one cornish hen and today a pork chop with veggies I finally got what it is about.
It is pretty much a smaller version convection oven with easier clean up and I do like the easy clean up.
Not much more than that but so far I like it.
Next Sunday we will see what it does with a 5.7 pound chicken and decide if it is a keeper or it goes back to Sam's Club.
I sure do like today's customer service compared to the 50's and 60's.

When it is too cold to cook outdoors I throw a bunch of wings in mine and 20 minutes later I have some very good eats.

Good for a quick snack for a game with absolutely no mess.

they are killer..food from frozen comes out great, takes a lil longer, but it's good.. I made a bloomin onion..about 2000 calories..got it down to less than 400 calories..in about 15 minutes..and it's good..that was the 1st thing I made.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

We need to have a yard sale for all kinds of cookers and gadgets.  We hardly have any space in our kitchen.  I just can't figger which ones to get rid of.

OK here is my take on this cooker.  It is not a real fryer as it is more of a scale downed convection oven and so far I like the Power Airfryer xl I purchased but it does not replace the taste of deep fried food.

In it own right so far it is has made good roasted food with easy and I mean easy clean which I like.

Tomorrow a 5.6 pound chicken goes into brine for 6 hours and a than air dry in the fridge overnight.

Sunday we will see how well mochine (colloquial) works.  It will live happily here or back to the cold shelves of Sams.  :)

Savannah..it  is a scaled down convection cooker..but it gives you someof the effects of deep fryign without the added grease..on anything..you can do is use the Misto to spray the outside of meat and whatever with a lil oil, it helps brown and makes things crispy. Works great on fries, but it greatly reduce the fats and that is the advantage. My hubby just had 2 stents put in and they said NO fried foods..and he's jonesing..he likes crunchy food, this is my attempt to help satisfy that craving and it seems to work so far. If I make anything breaded, I make my own breading mix and spritz with oil and it really makes a difference..Hope that helps.. .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Personally, I have found that it does great on certain foods, & not so great on others.

I don't like the way onion rings or breaded okra turn out in the AirFryer.
A couple others that I don't like cooked in it are breaded clam strips & breaded calamari.
They just don't have that fried taste. It seems to dry them out too much. Just my 2 pennies.

Thanks for providing me with that need info.
For me the "keep it or leave it" deal is how well it roasts a chicken.  It it does that well than everything well done is a plus.
I do believe that anything I can do in the convection oven I can do in the AirFryer as well only on a smaller scale.

Pam I understand what you are saying as I also have to restrict my fried food intake so I do hope to see your deep fried food replacement recipes in the future.

Savannah..I belong to a air fryer forum that posted that they are using Shake and Bake for breading in the air fryer..I tried the Meis and it was too thick, maybe I needed to process it down a lil bit, but I'm gonna try and see. I haven't tried to much breaded stuff yet..just a bloomin onion and breaded some mozzarella sticks that were great. so I'm on my way..lemma know what you make..we may need a catagory for air fryers.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Art we have tried it both ways. With regular breading such as panko, etc and shake n bake. I like the shake n bake as long as you use a light coat. If you put any breading on too thick it has a tendency to burn. I also like to just spray a little oil like PAM on the pieces and throw them in the air fryer. They crisp up real nice.

Pour one bag of seasoned frozen french fries in the air fryer and spray on a little vegetable oil.
Cook at 400 degrees for 7 minutes, gave the fries a shake and finished at 400 degrees for another 7 minutes.
Fries came out as good if not better than the deep fryer.
Another Plus for air fryer cooking.

Air Fryer test today is: Appetizer are Egg Rolls with an Entree of Fried Chicken

Appetizer will be frozen Egg Rolls.

Entree will be Fried Chicken make with a mix instead of buttermilk, eggs and flour.  Sweetie objected because she is a Southern Lady and Southern Lady's do not make Fried Chicken from a mix but I told it was just a test.  :)

Egg Rolls came out perfect so another plus for the Air Fryer and I am really starting to like this machine.

Chicken came out very tasty but I forget what Pam said which was "spray a little oil on the food".

Sorry about the poor picture quality.

I know it's cheating, but when I do egg rolls I nuke them for about a minute & then stick them in the Air fryer for a couple of minutes. They come out perfect & are extremely quick & easy.

Pam, I nuke them just to speed things up.
The egg rolls I use are supposed to be cooked for 18-20 minutes in the oven, which would equate to maybe 10-12 in the Air Fryer???
How long do you air fry yours?

My Air Fryer only goes up to 390 F, so I'm probably looking at 10 minutes.

So I'm saving myself maybe 7 minutes or so.

I'll try it your way next time & see if they come out any better.

For our second batch of egg rolls I follow some advice I saw on you tube.  When Air Frying Frozen Food she recommended "using the temperature listed and half the time".
These egg rolls called for 425 degrees for 22 minutes so I used 400 degrees (max) for 12 minutes.  You can see they were a little over done so next time it will be half.
They were still delicious and I am totally sold on this air fryer system and I am a hard sell.

I found one major problem for me.
I went into the sunroom, where the Power AirFryer XL lives, to watch the birds and TV.
About 11 minutes later and Bam, french fries appeared.
This is not good for my diet but thinking about it these fries are healthier than oil fried. That's my story and I am sticking to it. :) ;D ;D

OK I am sold sold sold on this fryer thanks to all who provided posts about Air Frying.

Tonight bake potato to go with Grilled Rib Eye.  Any recommendations on temp and time?

Waiting patiently for mine to arrive. So it just spontaneously makes French fries? Sweet feature I wasn't aware of

My book says for the baked potatoes to poke holes in them, season and cook for 40 minutes at 350. For the steak it is 360 for 8 to 14 minutes and flipping half way through.
I just checked the air fryer board I am on and a lady who has the same fryer as yours does hers for 40 minutes at 400 flipping at 20 minutes. Skin is crunchy inside is fluffy.
Hope this guides you my friend.

Hey Pappy, here ya go: Air Fryer Recipes

It is a public group and I believe it is the only one titled this way. There are tons of groups on Facebook
about air fryers. A lot of them are Air Fryer specific.

Needed an afternoon quick snake so pulled a handful of frozen Beer Batter Fish and a handful of Zesty Seasoned Fries.
Pre-heated the Power Air Fryer XL at 400 degrees for 4 minutes and aded food to the basket.

Ten minutes at 400 degrees with a light spray of aerosol canola oil.

Sweetie is ill and in bed so I may use a paper plate.

Added malt vinegar and a Red Strip and ready to eat in less than 20 minutes from thought to eating.  :) :)

What is the advantage of pre heating?

It's like preheating your oven Pappy. The one I have, which is the NuWave Brio has a preheat function. It comes up to temp that beeps and gives you 5 minutes to put your food in. Once I put it in it continues on it's merry way to the time I set. I stuck food in mine the other night while preheating and it got done a lot quicker than it should have. You are supposed to preheat empty. But my mind wasn't thinking too straight!  8)

Pretty much as Mike said along with it puts a better crisp on foods.
In this short time I have tried both ways and now always pre-heat for 3-5 minutes

Mine has a 3 minute preheat on it..and sometimes I spray the inside before I put food in so it doesn't stick, but I always preheat. Kinda like throwing something on the grill..always preheat.  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Agree Pam I always preheat the air fryer like as a pan, oven grill, smoker and even the car when it is cold out.

Well after getting taxes done today I had my brother bring his Sams club card. So guess what was in my cart along with a big ol bag of french fries and Weber garlic and herb seasoning. Yup, you guessed it. No more cookers for me. Until the pellet grill purchase!  ;)
