Title: This getting old ain't much fun.
Post by: ACW3 on March 19, 2017, 06:39:04 PM
This getting old ain't much fun.  My “lack ‘o fun” time began in early November when I developed a nice case of gout.  While the doctor and I tried several approaches to see if it was possible to minimize the effects of gout, nothing seemed to work.  Several items on the “DO NOT EAT OR DRINK” list included NO alcohol and NO wild game.  Before finally putting me on allopurinol, the doctor threatened to come over to my house and empty my freezers of all wild game, or put me on a VEGAN DIET.  I told him that wasn’t going to happen!!  I am now on allopurinol.

The next round of in the “lack ‘o fun” times started several weeks ago when my heart went into atrial fibrillation.  My heart would go into it’s own version of the Irish River Dance.  My body temperature would swing between sweating and absolutely freezing.  The only speculation was that a unitary tract infection somehow triggered the A-FIB.  After hitting me with some heavy duty drugs in my IV during my overnight stay last Sunday, the A-FIB started started to settle back down.  I had visions of Tim coming to visit wearing a set of insulted rubber gloves and pulling a large industrial sized cart with several large batteries and a set of jumper cables.  As he walks through the door he is sparking the electrodes together and announcing, “Never fear!!  Doctor Tim is here.  I won’t feel a thing.”

Apparently I may have experienced a number of mini-TIA’s, (aka mini strokes).  We’lI see what my cardiologist has to say about this next week.  As a precautionary measure I have been added to the Xarealto club.  I don’t need a blood blockage that gives me a big stroke.

I’ll let everyone know how I progress.  Please keep me in your prayers.

Best thoughts and wishes are sending your way.

I remember years ago I was managing a Medical Supply Store. This guy got his supplies and made the slow walk to the door, he turned to me and said "Golden Years my A$$". he then went out the door.

I have never forgotten that..................

Praying for you Art.

One of my best friends went into A-Fib a few days ago.  They gave him some drugs to completely stop his heart - quivers and all.  Then they "shocked" his heart about three times to get it back to his normal rhythm.  He's home now and feeling much better.

I'm glad they didn't have to be as aggressive with your treatment.

Maybe you can have Tim come over and clean out the freezer as the doctor wants.  Then, he can smoke the food you want and bring it PRN.

Aw shucks  :(

Welcome to the no booze, minimum meat, and thin blood club.  At present I am 24/36ths (one dozen cardiac rehab sessions left) along the way to climbing out of some of it.  Coumadin prescription ends in April.  So far I've found the best defense is just being plain ornery.  Having ornery friends helps a lot, too.  Tomorrow I am adding your name to the prayer list of our local Prison Ministry -- powerful medicine because God pays close attention to those guys  ;D

Keep you chin up, your nose a little out of joint, and pinch of sarcasm handy.  You're in great company here Art -- we're all on your side.

Can they remedy the A-FIB with laser ablation?

Hang in there...
Title: Re: This getting old ain't much fun. UPDATE!!

HEALTH UPDATE

Today was “doctor day”.  If something is supposed to happen, it is best if it happens in the doctor’s office.  I was in my cardiologist's when my A-Fib kicked-in.  I was given and EKG immediately.  Based on what the doctor saw on my EKG, he made some recommendations.  He changed the blood thinner I was put on in the hospital.  I have an echo-cardiogram scheduled in two weeks before I see him again.  After being on the new blood thinner for four weeks, he is going to schedule a visit to the hospital where I will get zapped with the paddles to bring my heart back to where it is supposed to be.

That’s all I know for now.  After the dust settles from all this, I will be setting up an appointment with a neurologist to see if we can find out about the mini-strokes I may have had recently.  One step at a time.   I’ll keep you posted.

Art

Mike, I don't know enough to ask any questions about laser ablations.  I have had RF ablations on nerves in my lower back and I have had a laser used to "help" break-up kidney stones, but nothing with my heart.

Art..I am surprised that they do it that way, by zapping you..I have had a svt, supra ventiricular tackacardia..very fast heart beat.  They stopped my heart by drugs, a low presser and it restarted by itself at a normal rhythm. An ablation is where they go in and zap the part of the heart that it happens at so that it does not happen again. Check into it.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Sorry to hear this.  I hope that they get you all lined out.  I just turned 50 and I have my share of medical issues.  I'm not enjoying getting older.
