I have never shopped at a walmart for food before because there are none really close to my house. Because I see some on here shop there for meats etc I figured I would give them a try today. I was really disappointed in the quality of their food. It looked like they are focused on high fat & low price only. Maybe its a NE thing! I did pick up a sirloin that looks fairly good but was higher priced than my local butcher. Anyway I will try it again but I am not going to race back.
What do you all say ;)

I would tend to agree. I would rather pay the same or even a little extra and get my meat from my local butcher/meat shop. They will be there when I need something extra special. He treats me right!

Really depends on the employees and meat department management at each Wal-Mart... From the one we frequent we don't purchase often from them, just keep watching the prices and meat quality to see what trips our trigger.

You can't beat Wal Marts prices for canned goods etc but I hardly use their meats. I have bought pork putts and briskets there when on sale with pretty good luck. For my everyday meat products I buy from my local butcher which has top quality meats, all local. For a long time I had to feed my dog hamburger and rice, he got ground chuck from my butcher! Don

I guess what i am saying is there was nothing Organic or semi healthy at the store. The produce did not look fresh or good.

Have not been a big fan of organic meats I have tried from Trader Joes. Really lacked something.....no idea what. I buy from Costco almost exclusively.

I only get three things (packaged meat) at Walmart, and they are all OK. Their house brand brisket packers are decent and are normally less than $2.00/lb. Their house brand beef ribs are actually my favorites, and (as I have mentioned before) they are only $1.88/lb around here. I will get butts when they have them (which isn't often). They are Tyson, and are around $2.00/lb not on sale. Much as I would love to use only my butchers (I've got two really good one - one by work and one by home), sometimes price is still a deciding factor.

They opened a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market kinda sorta close-by last year and I am there once a week. I really enjoy there house brands and I like their briskets. Chicken is good. I get my Pork Butts and ribs from the little carniceria behind where I work so I can't vouch for their pork at Wal-Mart.
I really like Wal-Marts rib-eyes but not at 11.99 a lb...again I hit the little carniceria at work and the guy orders me a rib eye roast for 4.99 a lb and I get about 20-21 3/4" steaks out of it.
I like Wal-Mart :) Costco stresses me out so I let the ball and chain shop there................

I've heard that stores get their product from different suppliers depending on where you live (obviously). I get all my protein from Wal-Mart. Never had a problem with the quality purchasing From my local store.

I like to be able to see the butcher back behind the glass in the nice clean white and stainless steel room working away. It makes me wonder what they are hiding behind the curtain when the blue vests sneak out a cart of meat to stock the meat counters. I don't like the way they cut the steaks at our Walmart so I can say I have only bought fresh cut meat their twice in the last eight years.

We have one old fashioned American butcher shop in the valley left and his prices do not make butcher shop meats an affordable option for us....but I sure would like it to be......... ;)

Smoke take a trip to the Ralph's in Porter Ranch. My uncle who lives in Mission Hills heads over there just to buy meat. He tells me that all they carry is prime cuts and sells at regular choice and select prices. They do that otherwise the people who live around there(very wealthy) would end up shopping somewhere else because they only want prime cuts. They take a loss on the meats but make up for it with the higher costs of everything else in there. So he goes there just to buy meat.
This is inside information so don't tell anyone..... Shhhhhhhhh ;)

There is a difference between the Wal-Mart Super Centers and the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets. The Neighborhood Market versions are smaller and cater to the community. It is Wal-Mart's way of getting into the Trader Joe's and Gelson's arena. They tend to have more organic foods and locally grown fruits/veggies.

My super mega mongo giganto 24/7 Wally World has very low prices on brands I don't buy and the toughest beef in town. However, I can get the oil changed in my pickup for about twenty five bucks and while they're doing it I can walk around and see a lot of eccentric constuming. Oddly, my Sam's Club has very good quality beef and pork. Between the two I am well fed and well entertained ;D
