Title: New to pellet smokers
Post by: Denveryte on April 16, 2013, 09:39:45 PM
Just ordered the rec tec for my first pellet smoker. I have been grilling and smoking food on a weber for the last 10 years. I never thought I would make the move but the reviews on this grill and the guys that I work with keep bringing in food that is pretty good. I live in Colorado and do most of the cooking in the house. I hope to learn a lot and hopefully throw my two cents in every now and again.
Thanks for having me
Nick

Welcome Nick, I think you will like your new smoker. I do about all the cooking too on my Traeger, my wife cooked last night, I had 3 tacos, and she had a broccoli pizza from Sandman's carry out! Don

So, it has been more than a few months since this post started and I am very interested in how the rec-tec has performed. Especially as I will more than likely pull the trigger on a pellet unit in 2014.  So, talk to me Goose! :-)

My brother has had my Rec Tec for almost a year now with no problems at all. The only problem we had early on was the fan spinning freely on the motor shaft but their has been a design change and this is a very good pit. Give Green Mountain and Camp Chef the hairy eyeball as well. Both are solid performers and I have reviews of both in the product review section

Not long after I posted to this thread back in August 2013 - I bought a Rec-Tec. And I have not regretted it all. There is nothing else on the market that offers the combination of practical features and quality of build for the price. Period. Get it, and a set of Grill Grates - and have all the fun you can stand!

Rec-tec is currently advertising  their unit for $998; a good deal?

It is a great deal. Compare them to everything else on the market. Their warranty, all of the interior parts like the heat diffuser, drip pan, cooking grates and fire pot are stainless steel. Light - so you can see your food when cooking at nite, 40 lb. hopper, lots of cooking area.

I think the regular price around $ 1500? So - it is a great deal at $995
