Title: "Best Sandwich in Sandwich" competition
Post by: bbqchef on June 30, 2013, 07:13:04 AM
I was one of six "celebrity" judges for the "Best Sandwich in Sandwich" competition yesterday here on Cape Cod. Ten restaurants participated and three served pulled pork... interesting!

I've judged a lot of barbecue competitions over the years and believe me none of the pulled pork came even close to "competition grade." One was served with a plum chutney... just plain nasty! Unfortunately it was blind judging so I don't know which restaurant(s) not to go to!

One of the competitors submitted a tuna fish sandwich on white bread... nothing to go with it... no lettuce, tomato, nada. Another restaurant had an interesting pickled cuke/ onion combination but I don't think it was made in-house.

There was only one entry that was a "presentation"...

All the others were just sandwiches on a paper plate!

I thought it was funny when someone came up to me and said: "I know you... you're on Food TV." He was disappointed when I told him I wasn't <lol>!

Mike, Is it the folks try to get to fancy and complicated that they miss the boat on what makes a good sandwich?  Trying to make a "signature dish"?  Dee
