Just build a big charcoal fire and see if you can keep it going until the smoker gets there.

Dang...I remember "Death Valley Days" and 20 Mule Team Borax...as a kid I marveled at seeing all those mules pulling the wagon.
Had to be 60 years ago when it was on.
