The number of penalties called this year was annoying and seemed to significantly disrupt the games all season. I do not have any stats to back up my perception, and on review, I may be proven wrong. It just seemed that there were many calls that were better left to "let them play the game." I have no opinion regarding the competency of the officials, however considering the number of rules and the number of new / modified rules, this is a daunting task. I respect the idea of protecting players, but when rules are added / modified to change the flow of the game (increase offense or defense) that doesn't feel right to me.
