Tri-Tip....... Out of season. Really??
« Reply #-1 on: January 24, 2015, 09:34:20 PM »
I went to my local Costco today and ask the butcher well the guy behind the glass if they had any tri-tip in and he said they were out of season.

OK,  first I needed to get my composure  ???    Out of season I ask??

I'm not asking for Christmas lights or decorations in the middle of summer so what gives?  He said they only carry them during a few months then they are out of season.   He told me to call the head office and complain but didn't know of a number.. >:( >:( >:(

I don't ask much from any store but BEEF out of season what has this country come to??????

What the so-called butcher probably meant was:

A. the tri-tip was ground up and added to ground beef  (common back east)  :-[

B. He might not know exactly what Tri-Tip is

It is always in "season" here on the left coast, but the prices are real high right now......

They really do that on the East coast? Economically that doesn't make any sense. The whole beef business makes no sense. Pigs make much more sense.

Tri-tips are always available here in California but as Smoke said prices are high. Summertime is when they usually go on sale on a regular basis.

I can get them here in central Illinois. But I have to order from my butcher at the local old timey, family owned meat market. I have to order 20lb minimum. Which is OK 'cause they give me a great price. Comes from their Chicago supplier.

I did ask what the price was when they were in season, he said he didn't know.

I'll go back to Star market or Publix and pay 8.99 a lb  at least they will have it

Pappy, it only makes sense if they wouldn't sell because (probably) less than 10% of consumers even know what a Tri-Tip is, let alone how to cook one.
