Radio Shack used to be my favorite store back when I was building electronic gadgets. Back in the day, it was the only place around that you could buy a resistor or capacitor or diode. I kinda quit experimenting with circuits so that's got to be the reason they are going bankrupt. Yeah, right.
Actually, I did buy something at Radio Shack a couple of years ago when I was putting together my PID controller on the pellet pooper. They had the parts waiting for me on the shelf just like they always have. Probably gonna miss them when they finally go away.
Another thought....everyone knows that Radio Shack sold one of the first computers on the market and sold a lot of them, but they never really went into the computer parts business. They were perfectly positioned to sell motherboards, harddrives, processors, etc. to the people that wanted to put together their own computers, but they didn't go there. That would have been a perfect fit for the type of customers they all ready had. If they had done that, they would probably be competing with Best Buy and Fry's and Microcenter today.
