Thermapen closeout: British Racing Green
« Reply #-1 on: April 17, 2015, 09:30:18 AM »
It really was only a matter of time. We all know the British Racing Green could never keep up with red.

For all of you who don't mind being in the slow lane, you can now save 20 bucks. :)

I did some research - the British Racing Green version is being pulled because it is too fast. The TGAA (Thermometer Governing Association of America) decided it was unfair to the rest of the members to have such a fast thermometer and required Thermoworks to discontinue this model and promote the slower red therm.

Thanks, Pappy for giving all the members a chance to get the fastest therm available!  ;) ;D 8) 8)

You are correct Doc! The speed difference (0.000621 seconds faster) was enough to not only catch the attention of the TGAA but the DTM (Department of Thermal Measuring). When they got involved all hell broke loose! The only saving grace for Thermoworks is they make both the fastest(green) and slowest(red) colors. So the DTM issued some minor fines and let them off with a warning.

Good to know, Muebe - all these governing agencies can be confusing.  ;D ;D ;D

And millions and millions of dollars were wasted to study it.

That is just a false story started by those that bought the slow green one. The real reason they are stopping production of the green is that the demand for the fastest orange model has increased to the point where they are phasing out other colors so they can devote resources for the orange.
