Oven Broiler NYS
« Reply #-1 on: July 25, 2015, 10:40:44 AM »
It was raining, thundering and lighting yesterday and plans called for a Steak for me and Tuna for her. When I have my taste buds set on a steak it’s not easy to change them so I decided to give the oven a try.

Set the broiler on high and let the pans come up to temp for about 15 minutes

Getting the protein ready. I didn’t realize I was out of EVOO so I melted some coconut oil and brushed both the stake and tuna with it. Added some S/P on the steak and blackening seasoning on the tuna.

Set the burners on high (I wish I would had gotten a gas stove)

Sear both for 30 seconds per side before returning to the oven. Time to get the fans and face them to the outside, getting a little smoky in here. Now I remember why I do most of my cooking outside. Once I was done searing they went back under broiler for two minutes per side. The tuna was done but the steak was still a bit underdone so I lowered it to the bottom shelf and loaded one of the pans with broccoli and put it under the broiler. Steak pulled about 5 minutes later and allowed to rest while the broccoli finished.

Tuna plated

Steak Plated

This is how I like my steak.

A little something for the dog. Not sure why I buy steak sauce, I never really use it.

Love to cook and eat

Sure don't remind me of the steaks Momma used to do in the broiler back in the day.  Yours are awesome.

We got the fans going fast enough to avoid the singing.

I tried this once.  I didn't have a cast iron pan at the time so I used my stainless steel heavy bottom pan.

Heated up the pan to sear to very hot.  After searing I picked up the pan to put it in the oven and a glob of solder that held on the heavy base melted and dropped on the glass stovetop.

I thought it would cool and easily chip off like on a concrete floor.  Instead as it cooled it started popping small shards of glass.  It had melted through the glass.

Finished the steaks in the oven.  My wife said they weren't that good.  Ordered a new glass top.  Not a proud moment.

Since then I have switched over to induction which I like a lot, but still glass top.  Although the glass doesn't get hot so clean up is so easy.

You know it is a bad day when you have to cook indoors  ::)

Great job of making the most of a bad situation, though.
