1st Anniversary in Alaska 1967
« Reply #-1 on: August 20, 2015, 11:07:31 AM »
We were married Aug. 20, 1966. I was in the USAF and 6 months later was sent to King Salmon Alaska. I rented a half of a cabin on the river and Nancy flew up for a month for our 1st Anniversary. She had frozen the top of our wedding cake and brought it along on dry ice. Here we are enjoying some champagne and the cake. The salmon season was slowing down but we did get her out in a boat to catch some nice fish. We ate a lot of salmon and trout while she was there for a month.

You can see she was there during the buggy season and you needed bee keeper’s nets while outdoors. You can see our shack on the King Salmon Creek and River was pretty desolate, no other homes in site. The cabin was about 2 to 3 miles from the site; most mornings I got a ride with a civilian that worked at the site but a few times I had to walk in.  One pic Nancy is in front of the only store in town and one we are at a bar with my friend and wife in Nek Nek.  Some great memories here!

Don, She sure looks like a keeper to put up with that environment. Happy Anniversary.

Your comment about the wedding cake reminds me of what happened to ours.  Carole had kept the top in a freezer for years as we moved from one duty station to another. I'm not sure why she was doing it but she was.  At one  location we had a maid and I guess she got hungry and ate the top of the wedding cake while Carole was out. Oh, Well.

That was funny Dee! We both could have stayed in King Salmon, my wife was a secretary at WPAFB, Dayton and the CO of Civil Engineering  offered her a job at King Salmon, and said I could stay on as a civilian electrician since I was getting discharged. Only 16 miles of road there and no where else to go. I knew she would never last there. Don
