I rebuild old gassers as a hobby & the only 2 brands of moderate priced gas grills built to last are Weber & Broil King.
Everything else suffers firebox failure.
That's a large reason looking as the Weber kamado when it's out.

Funny you mention Broil King......they offer a offset smoker that looks real nice. I have replaced the fire-box two times already on the Char Griller....I keep warping it from the oak wood I burn. CG will not replace it anymore.

Didn't mean to de-rail the thread.......................

I'll be curious to see it. If it's close to the Keg, it'll be a winner. Hopefully they picked up on the idea that the Keg invented.....portability! The keg can be hooked to a hitch and carted wherever you like! That's a KILLER feature.

another thought I have will be the fuel choice Weber will recommend for this Kamado. The kettle was designed for briquettes back in 1952 and Weber and Kingsford have been kind of "joined at the hip" for decades now.

I wonder if their Kamado will be designed to handle the heavy ash produced from briqs or will they also recommend lump.................

Don't think will be portable as it looke like has gas assist lighting ( or sear burner)
The chargriller Akorn works fine with briquittes .
I just hope it's affordable  ::)

Clearer idea !
It's going to be a double walled metal kamado , shaped ike a kettle.
Comes with heat deflector for low & slow.
Burns lump or briquittes.
Will be available as stand alone or in performer like stand.
Gas assisted lighting.
24 in cooking area.

Wow! That's some good info right there! ^^^^^^^

The Keg is double wall insulated, holds heat like you wouldn't believe. Sips fuel. We had a guy over at the Keg forum that ran one of his kegs for 50 hours on one load of lump at 225° just to see how long it would go. I am excited to see Weber enter the Kamado market! If they price it right, they can do what Broil King has seemed to have failed at with the Keg and have it catch hold of the US market. The Kegs are primarily sold in Canada and some abroad. They missed an opportunity here. If the Weber does well maybe that might open the door for the Keg to try again. It will come down to pricing first and foremost though.

I have recently started a 2nd job selling mattresses at Becker Furniture in Maple Grove (that will mean something to the MN contingent.) The relevance is Becker also sells Webers and the Weber rep was in today to train the furniture folks. It was a slow day so I hung out hoping to get some tips.

Unfortunately I had to offer some tips that buyers might care about more than model numbers and colors...  ::) ::) The best part was at the end he asked for questions. So I asked him when the new kamado style grill would be available, cost, fuel type, etc... He gave me a dirty look and said I must be misinformed.

I can't wait to drop him a note...  ;) ;D
