Hello all,
I have been grilling for years, traditionally with your normal grill from HD. However, a few years ago, my father bought me a grill for my birthday that had a gas smoker on the bottom of one side of the grill. It fit a couple of steaks or a couple of racks of ribs and got me hooked!
I am located in Maryland and have a wife plus 4 daughters ages 5-14. My oldest has an expanded her horizons and enjoys BBQ of all types. My other 3 love my bbq wings/ chicken and ribs but do not do much beyond that.
I currently own a TBE (but need some ideas for how to use it - it is under used and not had a lot of success so far!), a Smoke Hollow combo unit (gas, charcoal and offset smoker) and my newest addition - Red Box Smoker.
I have not done a lot of smoking. I have done a little with ribs and a successful attempt at steaks but the Smoke Hollow mods I did still have not worked well and holding temp has been difficult. After research, I found the Red Box Smoker and did my first smoke last night/ this morning.
I was lucky to find a local BBQ retailer that had an open house over the weekend during the Ironman Competition (state BBQ competition in PA). They had the Red Box cheaper than anywhere online and then I got a 10% discount - $429 for the smoker, Maverick blow torch, 40lb bag of Royal Oak briquettes and a large BBQ seasoning. I ended up getting another sauce as a door prize and a Maverick Roasting gauge for free! It turned out pretty well and the food was awesome!
I will post my first smoke info and be looking for some advice on how to improve the next time. Any suggestions on getting more use out of the TBE would be appreciated as well!
Good Grilling all!
