New Freezer
« Reply #-1 on: May 19, 2016, 05:08:41 PM »
Well, as luck would have it and the real luck is that I happened to go into the laundry room freezer to get something and noticed that there were a couple of thing that were somewhat soft. Freezee pops! I then realized there was something wrong. It just so happens that I was thinking about getting a  chest freezer and even stopped at HHGregg yesterday to check some out. Only two chest freezers there but I did notice a nice 20.1 cu. ft. upright. When the wife told me on the phone that the repairman suggested getting a new freezer I knew what I would end up getting. I was on the way to HHGregg when I remembered a closer furniture appliance store so I stopped in there and was able to get the same freezer for the reduced price of $629.00(same as HHGregg) and was able to get it this afternoon. Only catch was I had to pick it up myself. Got it in place and siting to allow the freon to settle back to normal and then the work of transferring starts. The new freezer is about 25% bigger which I really like. What I don't like is that now we have to close the laundry room door all the way to get into the new one but it could be worse. At least no foods will go to waste.

I have a chest freezer and also an upright. I much prefer the upright. It is much easier to see what food you have in it and get it out without having to dig around. I am giving the chest freezer to the lady that cleans our house.

Chest freezer, usually NOT self defrost, both good & bad....less freezer burn keeps food longer things get LOST IN THE BOTTOM!
Upright, usually self defrost, leads to more freezer burn & doesn't keep things as long.
Much easier to find things.
I have a 17 cu. foot upright inside where we keep normal food.
I have an ancient 9 cu. foot chest that was our first freezer & my wife HATED.
It's used for game, fish & large cuts of meat I find on sale.
