I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks. Came here looking for owner reviews on the The Good-One Open Range. Thanks smokeasaurus! Now I learned you can use good old KBB with no problem. That's great! Lump gets real expensive for everyday use. The manufacturer doesn't mention this in their sales literature. Of course they want you to use their branded charcoal. That's why real owners are so important. They'll give you an honest answer.

Hi Old Dog.  When I was a Cowboy Dealer for Ace of Hearts (Good One Distributor), they held a pretty hard stance on only using lump charcoal. That really hurt my sales because lump is so unpredictable and you never know what you are going to get in the bag. Since Chris has taken over he says briquettes can be used. Yeah the ash production is gonna be high but the Good One can handle it.

Besides, I bought a 40 lb bag of mesquite lump earlier this year and there was about 6 big pcs and about 35 lbs of sift in the bag. Done with that crap.

Welcome from So-Cal and if you have any Good One questions just let me know. :)

Welcome...all the way from middle Georgia.

You have a great mentor in "Old Smoke"...the guy knows about smokers and grills that I've never heard of before I dropped in here....AND he knows how to share ideas and techniques.
AND... he's just one of a bunch of guys here who can help you out with your grill or smoker.

just sayin'...
