The Ohio Mohican gathering 2016 is over for the wife and I. We had a great time, ate great BBQ and great visiting with friends! Getting older we just stayed over one night and stayed at the Landoll’s Mohican Castle. Tim (teesquare), Art (ACW3) and wives also stayed at the castle.
The rest all stayed at a KOA campground in cabins. Cliff (TentHunteR) arranged it and made a great choice. The campgrounds were kept very clean and they had a heated pool. Cliff and Old Dave did most of the cooking, well I should say with a lot of help from their wives Tammy and Jan.
When we pulled in about noon Friday most were there. Members attending were TentHunteR, teesquare, ACW3, Old Dave, Pam, Scallywag, Travishunting7777 and Cliff’s friend who brought the goat meat. Thanks Kevin (stalag) for a chance to eat goat meat for the first time at 74!! Loved it!!!
Visitors who were there were Pam’s granddaughter Macy and friend Donna. Old Dave’s friend Mike and his wife. Mike was a co-worker of Dave’s for years.
We also had thousands of visitors; the 17 year cicada. They were pretty noisy until late afternoon and were all over the place.
Lunch was about ready when we arrived and it was a treat for me. The first time I ever had goat. Cliff’s friend and member had provided some ground goat and Cliff made goat burgers on the Camp Chef. For me they were very tasty, seasoned and cooked just right. Dave had made his great pig shots and some wings. There were a couple of salads and some snacks too. My wife was happy Pam had two of her maple, bacon glazed doughnuts left from their breakfast.
Erin (Scallywag) and his wife from Canada pulled in after lunch. Tim, Art and wives left after lunch; the wives were a little freaked out over the cicadas! They were a little nuisance getting on you at times. I don’t think we ate any
Friday evening meal was meatloaf by Dave, some beef short ribs by Cliff; he ended up calling them burnt end short ribs!
What good meat I got off mine was tasty! Jason (Travishunting7777) did a pork loin on the Mak and it turned out great! Cliff made up a double batch of his Mac n cheese with broccoli. There were salads by Jan and Tammy I think. Pam baked two rhubarb pies on the Mak for dessert.
After supper we all sat around and visited. The wife and I left about 8 PM to go to the motel.
Saturday morning about half of the group went to a good breakfast place to eat and then do some sightseeing. The wife and I just ate the continental breakfast at the motel. We went back to the campgrounds about 10:30 and found Dave, Jan, Mike and wife, Pam, Macy and Donna setting on the porch of their cabin. It was lightly sprinkling but it stopped about noon.
For lunch Dave had done a rotisserie ham on his cobb grill, Jan had made a cheese pasta salad. There were some leftover pig shots, wings and a broccoli salad. Donna made two pecan pies for dessert. It was a great lunch and Dave, Mike and me swapped a lot of stories!
Cliff and wife Tammy, Erin and wife Paula got back about 1:30 from breakfast and running around. I had wanted to see Tee, Art and wives before we left but the wife and I were tired out. We got packed up and headed home. Erin gave me two cans of his favorite poutine gravy and Cliff gave me a chub of his venison summer sausage.
I think we missed out on a great supper meal, Cliff was making ribs, Dave had a brisket on and Erin (Scallywag) was making some jerk chicken poutine!
I didn’t get near as many photos as I would have liked and not any of the great food. I guess I was just having too much fun. I hope other members got some good photos.
