Right! So, I had my new Rec Tec RT-680 show up Monday 10/10/16, assembled it, and just had enough time in the day left to burn it in for an hour, cool & cover it. Next night, my wife got a 16 pack of Costco 1/2# patties; simple salt, pepper, garlic powder, then in the grill. Half pound patties must be bigger than what Rec Tec's Ray Carnes was using, cuz I had to cook mine longer; maybe 20 min total (I was also lookin' too much; if ur lookin' u ain't cookin'...) rather than the 12 min Ray took. Heated the Rec Tec up to 500, then laid the patties on the Grill Grates (those are the bomb!). A little sticky on the new grates (no spray or oil prior to cooking), but got more nonstick quickly as they got oily from the burger oils. Plated them up, and everyone commented on how good they were, even my particular wife. Great start! Had to grill up the remaining patties, and those cooked faster since I had a better sense of how much time it would take; maybe 15-16 min for the second batch, 8 min - flip - 6 min, with maybe a rotation for cross hatch grill marks. We ate those last night (2 days after they were grilled), and they were almost as good as straight from the grill! I really love the way the gear doesn't dry out the meat!
I ordered a ThermoPro TP-20, which should get to my home next week. I'll post something when I get it to let interested folks know how it works for me.
Thanks for letting me in the forum, and I look forward to learning as I go!
