This is what passed for grilling in my house growing up

I remember this thing was always used on the kitchen counter. Everybody that got married was given one as a gift.

This pick was posted by my uncle on Facebook today. And unfortunately he still uses it. :(

Heck ya I remember having one of those.  Made great food if one did not start on fire.
Cord was to thin and ours melted on the counter until it blew the fuse.
Thanks to who develop fuses and of course now circuit breakers.

They did not allow Canadians to own them. They were afraid you might use the pointy ends to start a war with the Quebecois.... :D :D :D Just kidding of course....

It reminds me of my dad and his bbq prowess! We had a brick grill/fireplace in the yard that he made, and he had a hardware store charcoal grill with a half-hood to fend off the wind I guess. A lever raised the grid up or down, and it was avocado in color. His specialty was bbq'ed chicken. You know, until I was about twenty I thought that all bbq'ed chicken was black!  :D

They were popular 1950's and '60's live action centerpieces for a dinner party. Wen you wanted to impress your guests with what you were going to feed them and they could see it as it was finishing on the rotisserie.

Pretty cool tool if you can find one. Just do not leave it un-attended for long, as Savanah Smoker pointed out - they were..."marginal" on the gauge of electric cord - and you would not want to have to use a fire extinguisher around your meat that is cooking... :D

I had one decades ago.  What I remember most was that all the grease splatter didn't give in to gravity and fall down into the pan.  A hot chunk of critter would spray everything within a five foot radius with little droplets of juice.  Only used it once and put it in a garage sale  >:(
