Any Amazon Echo (Alexa) fans here?
« Reply #-1 on: February 12, 2017, 02:02:05 PM »
I may have a problem in this area. I have an Echo, Tap, and three Dots. My whole family loves them and uses them. Weather, music, shopping lists, alarm clock. The functionality goes on and on.

Does anybody really need one? No! But we have a lot of fun with ours.

I know that there are endless applications for these but I was thinking of getting one, mainly for music while I'm cooking in the kitchen.

Yep, I have the original pre release Echo, got it for $99 and about 3-4 months ago ordered a dot for the bathroom. I have it linked to control my wi-fi thermostat, I like that! I have yet to get the needed stuff to make it control my deadbolt and tv and lights and probably won't do that until I move into my next house.

So far not a fan, and my son says I am a techie, because I do not want a listing device on full time using the internet.
I could be wrong about the hack possibilities but that where I am at for now.

We have four Echo Dots, and use them a lot.
One thing that is keeping us entertained is that our African Grey parrot, Ziva, talks to Alexa frequently.
Also, because my bride tells Alexa to "stop" timers or turn off lights, often, when she begins to talk to the dot and says "Alexa...", Ziva quickly says "Stop" or "Turn off"

I have 1 Echo an 4 dots. So far I control 7 lights downstairs. I had my eye's on these for quite awhile, but what ended-up hooking me- was the ask my buddy part. Ask my buddy='s If I need to contact someone you say Alexa ask my buddy & Alexa will call people you have programed into. Why I really like this, well approx. 1&1/2yrs. ago I had a operation on my neck, & since then I have fell different times- 1 time pretty bad & hit my head on the wood floor. I couldn't move & my head was spinning. I was screaming for help, but my X-wife that lives upstairs couldn't hear me. My dog was going nuts- but end-up running upstairs to get her- Thank God. So that's what sold me "Ask my buddy" will call her. All I have to say is Alexa Ask My Buddy & there are no extra charges.

I turn my TV off & on with it- Plus you can set alarm for sleeping or for a timer for your food- Just say Alexa set a alarm for say 2hours & 15mins. You can also get special pricing on certain things through Alexa. I have a wireless door lock installed, but haven't hooked it up yet.
