Please, please take down this thread --  I am weak willed and I won't survive if I bring home another cooking apparatus. I will be forced to go into rehab and  to join a 12 step program relating to cooking. ::)
So many cookers and so little time. :D :D :D :D

I have 4 kids.... fried foods are a must - we owned a traditional fryer but hated dealing with the grease....wonder what the wife would say... :)

Dadgum!!

I should have known to ignore this thread.
We need to have a yard sale for all kinds of cookers and gadgets.  We hardly have any space in our kitchen.  I just can't figger which ones to get rid of.

OK here is my take on this cooker.  It is not a real fryer as it is more of a scale downed convection oven and so far I like the Power Airfryer xl I purchased but it does not replace the taste of deep fried food.

In it own right so far it is has made good roasted food with easy and I mean easy clean which I like.

Tomorrow a 5.6 pound chicken goes into brine for 6 hours and a than air dry in the fridge overnight.

Sunday we will see how well mochine (colloquial) works.  It will live happily here or back to the cold shelves of Sams.  :)

Savannah..it  is a scaled down convection cooker..but it gives you someof the effects of deep fryign without the added grease..on anything..you can do is use the Misto to spray the outside of meat and whatever with a lil oil, it helps brown and makes things crispy. Works great on fries, but it greatly reduce the fats and that is the advantage. My hubby just had 2 stents put in and they said NO fried foods..and he's jonesing..he likes crunchy food, this is my attempt to help satisfy that craving and it seems to work so far. If I make anything breaded, I make my own breading mix and spritz with oil and it really makes a difference..Hope that helps.. .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Personally, I have found that it does great on certain foods, & not so great on others.

I don't like the way onion rings or breaded okra turn out in the AirFryer.
A couple others that I don't like cooked in it are breaded clam strips & breaded calamari.
They just don't have that fried taste. It seems to dry them out too much. Just my 2 pennies.

Thanks for providing me with that need info.
For me the "keep it or leave it" deal is how well it roasts a chicken.  It it does that well than everything well done is a plus.
I do believe that anything I can do in the convection oven I can do in the AirFryer as well only on a smaller scale.

Pam I understand what you are saying as I also have to restrict my fried food intake so I do hope to see your deep fried food replacement recipes in the future.

Savannah..I belong to a air fryer forum that posted that they are using Shake and Bake for breading in the air fryer..I tried the Meis and it was too thick, maybe I needed to process it down a lil bit, but I'm gonna try and see. I haven't tried to much breaded stuff yet..just a bloomin onion and breaded some mozzarella sticks that were great. so I'm on my way..lemma know what you make..we may need a catagory for air fryers.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Art we have tried it both ways. With regular breading such as panko, etc and shake n bake. I like the shake n bake as long as you use a light coat. If you put any breading on too thick it has a tendency to burn. I also like to just spray a little oil like PAM on the pieces and throw them in the air fryer. They crisp up real nice.
