Trying something new with my Cinnamon Rolls
« Reply #-1 on: July 01, 2017, 09:37:35 PM »
Maybe it's strange but sometimes I get ideas of things to cook while lying in bed. Take for example the time I came up with the idea to make a fig, bacon and pulled pork pizza, lol! That one was a winner so let's hope this is one is too. Keep in mind, there is nothing wrong at all with my current cinnamon roll recipe but sometimes you just wing it to see if you can make it better. If nothing else, something a little different.

As I was lying in bed, the idea of using praline pecans with a salted caramel sauce, along with the regular cinnamon rolls, might be something wonderful. So to the store I went. My wife went as well so she could get some wings to smoke for dinner (mojo wings, mmmm mmmm!)

I got all the needed ingredients for the cinnamon rolls plus stuff to make my chipotle bbq sauce for tomorrow's meal (there will be pics of that tomorrow, don't you worry!)

I got home and made up some salted caramel sauce from scratch and it's wonderful! I also made up the cream cheese glaze. This evening I made the dough, let it rise, rolled it out and made my rolls. It went a little something like this :

Dough rolled out on greased counter top and loaded with BUTTA!

Next the brown sugar & cinnamon mixture

I crushed some pralines to sprinkle on there

Next I drizzled a little of the caramel sauce on

Rolled'er up

Cut it up and into a buttered dish and a little more caramel on top to soak in

Wrapped up for an overnight proof in the fridge

Tomorrow morning's toppings after baking : Cream cheese icing, more pralines and caramel sauce

It might be a failed experiment. These might suck.

BUT.....I highly doubt it :P

Stay tuned, I will post the final product tomorrow morning sometime.

I got up at 7:00 and took them out of the fridge, they had risen quite nicely. I let them sit out at room temp while I went and took a shower. I came back and put them in the oven on "Proof" mode for about an hour and then topped them with more caramel sauce and crushed pralines. Baked them and then topped with more caramel sauce and then the icing.

As hard as it is to imagine, they're still sitting in the pan undisturbed! I am waiting for my wife to get back from the store. She forgot some ingredients while we were out yesterday. I figured that the least I could was wait for her to get back, to let her be the guinea pig, lol!

After proofing in the oven

Just before baking

Fresh from the oven

Iced up ready to go!

I'll report back with the final grade once I've tried them out. Somebody's got to do it ;) :P

Oh....My.....Goodness! I think I did it boys and girls! I improved on my recipe, this was as good as I had hoped it would be. I am having a sugar rush you wouldn't believe right now but man was it worth it!

I took a few pics to convey my happiness with it, but this one shows it better than I can explain it, lol

My wife was moaning as she ate it, THAT's how good it was :P

I've had your cinnamon rolls before RG and they were fantastic!!  Hard to believe you improved upon them but those sure look like you may have actually done just that!   :P

Thanks Bob! Yeah, those were hard to beat but this recipe achieved that goal! It's a good thing they are such a pain to make, once maybe twice a year is all I am good for!
