Hello from southern California!
« Reply #-1 on: May 13, 2018, 09:51:19 AM »
Hi all!  Thanks for letting me join your BBQ world.  Been pellet smoking just a couple of years, and grilling on various charcoal and gas pits since childhood really (grew in SoCal, and Dad loved to nuke everything.  Cheap grill from Zody's and lots of lighter fluid!).  I was happy to find this forum and all the great content you all share.  Looking forward to learning and contributing!

Howdy. These super posters on here are extremely knowledgeable.  Be careful however, they have been know to drastically lighten your wallet with their wisdom and influence. But in a good way.

I miss living in Camp Pendleton.  SoCal, especially greater San Diego is beautiful, the weather and beaches.

Welcome from Central Texas.

Originally from the San Fernando Valley. I remember shopping at Zodys in North Hollywood back in the day.

Small world!  Born in Burbank and lived in Van Nuys, N. Hollywood and Sherman Oaks.  Zody's, WhiteFront and Akrons - first of the ideas that led to Walmart et al.

By the way MAK owes you big time.  I just finished reading your lengthy post on the MAK 2 Star.  I had been struggling with a decision to buy a Memphis Pro or the MAK 2 Star.  Was leaning strongly towards the MAK, but still vacillating even with great feedback from TentHunter, MAK DADDY and rwalters (some of that from other forums).  Then your post covered all the bases, with great pics, ideas, cooks and others commenting.

My only challenge now will be assembly - I'm just not in a good position to do this myself and do not have anyone (yet) that can help.  I can't buy until the end of June when a friend is taking the Camp Chef, so I'll see if there are options for "all most completely" assembled delivery.

Thanks for the welcome!

Naw, not to Oregon.  But BigPoppa’s is about 3 hours drive from here.  I’ll be calling them in a couple of weeks and see what could be arranged.

I was going to also suggest that, but could not find their address. I thought it was in CA, but wasn't 100% sure. Their central warehouse for rubs, sauces, etc is in Oklahoma.

I was lucky enough to find a 2 year old model still unsold from a previous retailer fully assembled. I should have waited for a second person to simply getting it out of the truck bed. These things are sold. I can see a second person being a necessity for assembly.
