Many of you may remember when I got my friend & companion Lucy. Over the years I’ve included her in a number of posts.

https://imgur.com/a/eWA5p4o

Lucy our Golden Retriever died at 7 , before her time, In spite of her short life she had a fulfilling exciting life.
Lucy walked in a Mardi Gras parade. She helped raise money for animal shelters, she was our copilot on our RV trips. She served as guardian of the grill when I was outdoor  cooking. she starred in a Facebook video as an advertisement for her groomer. She even starred in a cabaret show in a bar in the French quarter New Orleans.
Observing Lucy We’ve learned a lot.
Be kind to every one.
Didn’t matter to Lucy if you were black, white , old , young, beautiful or ugly. Lucy would greet you, pay attention like you were the only one in the world.
Touch is important.
Lucy encouraged every one to rub her & would nuzzle, lick or put her head in your lap. Touch relaxes, & makes us feel better.
Have patience with small children.
So many times when out in the public she would allow children from toddlers to older to touch, pet rub & kiss her. Would just sit there & let them visit as long as they liked.
Lucy taught us to find joy in  the small ordinary events of life.
She found joy in a bite of food, fresh water, laying in the sun, a rub on the head and especially her renowned “paw massage”.
If the definition of a “ Life Well Lived “ is changing the life of those people you touch then indeed her’s was a life well lived.

Wendy and I are so saddened to hear about Lucy.  Only 7 years old.......what a shame.

I shudder at the thought of losing any of our dogs.

I remember when you get her.

We are so very sorry LA.

All dogs do go to Heaven. Lucy is in a better place than all of us.................

Just cherish and remember your time together.

Very sorry to hear about your loss LA. Dogs bring so much joy and love to their family and friends, but ask for so little. We truly can learn a lot from our fuzzy friends.

Sorry to hear about your loss.  After viewing the photos she was surely a special friend.

I must admit to choking back tears and am so sorry for your loss. Our Bella is a mix of golden retriever and poodle (GoldenDoodle). The characteristics you describe are exactly the same as we enjoy. Very smart and most of all loving creatures of any and all forms of life.

So sorry for your loss. This happens all too soon, too many times. Goldens are never around long enough. We rescue Goldens and are down to two at the present. The heartbreak for me seems to last many months and they are never forgotten.

The way I help myself get over the grief is I transfer my sadness in rescuing another Golden somewhere that I know needs some help somewhere. The wife and I have done this 7 times so far.

This avatar is my Benson who passed away about 6 years ago. I keep the avatar as a way to "visit him" every time I come on the site.

Again, so sorry. It is heartbreaking I know.

So sorry to hear of your loss John. I always loved reading your posts about Lucy and seeing the pictures of her supervising your cooks. I know how hard it is to lose a pet who has become a treasured member of the family.
