Mayhaw Jelly
« Reply #-1 on: August 19, 2020, 11:15:44 AM »

Warmed a couple of biscuits this mornig added some butter and mayhaw jelly.

An old guy I used to hunt with in Angie introduced me to mayhaw jelly. I love that stuff!!! He used to make it and give me some as well as cook big breakfasts and of course biscuits and mayhaw jelly were always on the table. We used to pick mayhaw berries in the swamp and he'd make the jelly.
He's passed away since and we lost the lease there. I bet many see mayhaw trees in the woods and don't know what they are. Remind me of cranberries.

A new one to me, too.  Is it sweet or tart like cranberries?

BTW.  Tee prefers his biscuits with KY Jelly.

I want to say I remember my dad and Uncle talking about Mayhaw trees. We use to go over to Fishville a lot so maybe when we were over there.  Of coarse I could be remembering PawPaw trees which my mom always talked about.
I started reading about the Mayhaw trees and they are more prevalent in the swamps and wetlands because they cannot tolerate fire at
all.  Otherwise they seem to be able to grow in anything from standing water to almost dry sand...
We are slowly adding fruit and flowering trees to our property to supply the neighbors bees with pollen and attract birds for us to admire when we "get old"...  Plus having fruits to preserve is always a plus.  These look like a great addition to the plan.

We had a piece of property that we sold since we figured we'd be city bound. I wish we hadn't sold it!
I wish I had a place to grow pecan trees, definitely mayhaw trees and the whole gamut of fruit trees. I'm ready to leave city life!

Looks like a tasty jelly and the price on the larger trees isn’t to bad either. Sure hope you can get back to having land too grow things again.
