Scoot - Don't forget the rectangular design too. It is a "maze" design that is easy to load with only amount you want.
So if you only want a 1-2 hour burn, or longer. You can look at it here:

http://www.amazenproducts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=AMNPS5X8

The tubes do save space on a grill - if that is the goal. You can "short load them and light them, just a different way to do the same thing. Todd's products are great!
BBQ is neither verb or noun. It is an experience.

Scott,
I have the 12" and it more than covers anything I need.  I cold smoke with it and never use the full capacity.  I also use it to supplement the smoke from my "Smoke Setting" on my MAK.  If you aren't using a really large cooker with a great volume of space inside, the 12" will probably be a good choice for you.

If you use a pellet pooper, you really need to get an A-Maze-N tube smoker for some added smoke flavor. I like mine a lot and use it all the time.

Usually, bigger is better but this is one of the few cases where 12 is better than 18.  Dee

I gave my son in law, Brad, one for Christmas and he uses it for some of his cooking and cooking demos/classes as his job as the Executive Chef at the Chateau Elan Resort and Winery in Braselton, GA.  It is an amazin' tool.  Dee

The Tube Smokers were designed for use in a pellet grill, but after guys started testing it, they found the Tubes worked well in gas grills and propane smokers
The A-AMAZE-N-PELLET-SMOKER(AMNPS) was designed for electric smokers, and is hit & miss in a pellet frill or gas smoker.  Just the nature of the beast

I use a 12" Tube Smoker in my Pellet Grills for most everything, including cold smoking
I still use an AMNPS in my Masterbuilt Electric Smokers for both hot and cold smoking

How's that for a simple explanation?
