CharBroil forum closing
« Reply #-1 on: June 05, 2014, 01:41:17 PM »
Closing on June 10.  Does anyone know how to save some of the information.   There is a lot of good info there segregated  by food groups.....  pork,  beef,  chicken,  etc.   I'm  particularly interested in the big easy section.   Who knows how to save it for future reference.

The easiest method would be if the webmaster would make the relevant tables in the database available, but I doubt that they would do so.  Here's a link to a harvesting tool, but I have not used it, so I do not know if it will be effective:

Well they could link our forum since much of their base members have been relocated here.

As far as backing up the information you can go through and save the pages to your computer but that is a lot of information and will take some time.

I will always have a soft spot for the Sizzle on the Grill forum. It is a shame a big company like Char-Broil would let it go down the drain in the first place and then kill it off............... :'(

Smoke they did not see the value in it unfortunately. Could not keep the spammers out either.

Back in the day when CB ran the forum it was great. Then things changed after he left.

There were hundreds of people that we helped with their char-broil products at no charge. And probably thousands that were convinced by us to buy a Big Easy or RED.

Their internet media baby is Facebook and Twitter now.

Facebook, You Tube, and Twitter have their uses and their places. However, in a niche a forum creates a sense of community that other media does not. Unfortunately, it looks like Char Broil, like many companies, is being swayed by the "new" social media and not looking at the communities they had and can build.

I am an "n" of 1 - but if I had to interact with LTBBQ on Facebook or Twitter - I would not be doing it nearly as often, and eventually probably not at all... It is important to understand who  your customers and prospects are - for Char Broil's sake I hope theirs are Gen Y.

I would think you could use Evernote to save the web pages. I do it all the time. And it is free :)

What is Facebook?  Can I post my pictures there?  Dee
This post may contain misspellings, grammatical errors, disorganized sentence structure, misquotes, and lack a coherent theme.  These elements are natural to the process of writing, and will only add to the beauty of the post.
