Thighs cooking rapidly
« Reply #-1 on: November 24, 2022, 10:01:16 AM »
I put my bird in the SRG 55 minutes ago.  These are the current Temps.  The bottom is thigh the top is breast.  It is cooking quickly so I turned it down almost to low.  Breast is facing up.  Any suggestions what to do to even put the cooking?

I flipped the bird and Temps have evened out a bit. Will wrap wings in foil if needed.

Turkey turned out amazing! So moist and juicy. The honey butter garlic injection was awesome.

Best one I've made yet! Just have to get a way for the bird to stand better in the basket.

I foolishly gave away my TBE and SRG several years ago but, if I recall correctly, I used to rig a hook to suspend the turkey in the basket so it would be upright and contained at the same time.

That may not be a totally reliable recollection since I'm old (but not as old as IR2dum) and still in a food coma from yesterday.

I was taught to use the "Tommy ring"at the bottom to help with the cooking evenness. The bird always tilts a little in the basket, but really doesn't effect the cooking.
