Title: Hard boiled eggs on the SRG
Post by: Kajunmantx on October 26, 2017, 12:55:05 PM
I want to cook some boiled eggs on my SRG. What temp do I cook on and for how long? Where is best place to put them in the rack, on top in middle or bottom?

Slow cook them, It will be a trick to not dry them out.
I raise hens and I sometimes put eggs on the grill (to give back to the chickens) that didn't get picked up in time for us to eat.  If they cook too hot or too long and sometimes "just because" they will BLOW UP...  You don't want to be picking one up with the tongs right about then. Just sayin...
Store bought eggs may act differently because they have bleached off the protective membrane that god and the chickens put on there naturally.  This makes the eggs porous and allows air into the shell. This might decrease the explosion factor... Might even allow some smoke flavor in.
Let us know what you find out.

Just curious, why would you want to cook eggs in the shell on the SRG?
I've thought about putting some shelled hard boiled eggs on my keg for some smoke, but never thought about cooking eggs in the shell.

I've got the idea to "bake" hard boil style eggs on a smoker. Took about an hour, probably could have pulled them at 45-50 mins. Gave them a nice tan color when peeled and a slight hint of smoke. wife made devil eggs with them.

Interesting idea.  Love deviled eggs, I bet that made for a great flavor combination.
