Title: Thankgiving Day Turkey in the SRG
Post by: teesquare on November 28, 2011, 09:28:52 PM
This is the turkey i did for Thansgiving this year. It was cooked in the SRG...... it was brined, and then stuffed with oranges, then cooked

Tee, that looks delicious. Did the citrus flavor come through?

No, I can't say that the flavor of the oranges was present Don - *but* - the aroma was nice, and the moisture ( steam) being released as it cooked really insured a moist, tender bird.

I have work opositioning the bird better next time, or trning down the heat...the winggs and the very top of the breast got dark - but, tasted great!

Thanks Tommy! Coming from the Big Easy Master - that is great praise ;D!

In my family - "I" am the ham....so nobody wants to take a bite...I am sure I would be quite tough to the tooth..... ;)

You would think having a guest chef for Char-Broil in the family I would get to cook right?

All we brought to the party were deviled eggs!

You can't hard boil an egg in an SRG, you know???????

Great looking bird Tee ;D

We went to my brother-in-law's house and he made a fried turkey in his deep fryer. It was good but slightly dry. I think he may have overcooked it this time.

Thanks Mike!
Deep fied turkeys taste great - but because it is more difficult (or dangerous) to check the temperature of the bird - they can get over-cooked, or under cooked.
Score one for the SRG ;)

I talked a co-worker and her husband in a TBE this year for their turkey at her sisters. They went to her sisters house and she insisted cooking her own bird in the oven. Both birds were cut up and placed on different platters. The TBE platter was empty and the oven bird was still full. Her sister is now coming this weekend to get her one.

Ya can't beat TBE for turkeys..I have put 2 of them together in the last week and a half..and 3 of them were bought by friends that tried it. I need a commission. Ya can't beat them or the SRG. Pammie ★*˚°。°

TLG...don't ya hate it when they over do the herbs? I grow my own and use it sparingly, but it's great with turkey. Hope you had a good turkey day ★*˚°。°

There is something magical about cookin' a toikey in TBE or SRG isn't there? The color for the skin is helped a bit if you are using some wood chips or pellets.

Thanks for the compliments - but I know that anyone can do this as well as I do with one these "turkey barrel" cookers! ;D
