Title: Searching Craigslist for a Big Easy cooker
Post by: Merrick Bill on January 10, 2012, 02:53:27 PM
I've started checking Craigslist for a Big Easy cooker.  The weird thing is, all the sellers seem to want more money than Home Depot charges for a new one.   But I'll keep looking, I'll find a deal eventually.

I saw them for $69.00 at Big Lots before Christmas. For that price..I would take a new one, or in my case..a 2nd one. ★*˚°。°

$69 is what Home Depot is charging.  All of the Craigslist ads want between $80 and $100, which seems kinda weird to me.

Some of these folks may not know the current price and are just pricing them based on what they paid for them new.  My BE cost me $149 if I remember right.

I remember my TBE wa $139 and $5.00 shipping and I had to pick it up at Lowe's. And it was worth it too. I have sold over 15 of them bad boys so far. Jus got my lil seester all the racks and stuff she will need for her new one. We had christmas just last night. She is thrilled. Now that's a good present, specially when they love it.  Pam ★*˚°。°

There is a chain of retailers that go under 3 names ( regioanlly) that I am aware of. Here they are Big Lots, but in other areas of the country I have seen Odd Lots, and Job Lots as their name.

My point is that, they have been advertising the Big Easy ( with the Thermos label - made by Char Broil ) for $79.00

One possible advantage of this unit, is that is has a HI and LOW setting....

Does Charbroil own Thermos or the other way around? How can they do that? well..dumb question there. We have a Big Lots here that are selling them that way. I didn't notice the 2 heating levels tho. Pam ★*˚°。°

I've even seen that same unit with a 'Butterball' label on it..    "Oil-less turkey fryer"

Not trying to speak for Charbroil, but it is my understanding...

But it is Charbroil that makes the units - and they private label certain products for other companies.

Then the question is which of those three companies has the best customer service.  My guess is that down the road, it'll be easiest to get replacement parts from Char Broil.  That would only be an issue during warranty since once the warranty period is over, you could buy them from Char Broil no matter which brand you have.

Have no clue about the others Bill but I find that Char Broil really makes an effort to have good customer service. But the Thermos branded unit is the one with HI and LO ......

Char-Broil has historically produced a number of outdoor cooking products for Thermos branding. I am not familiar with all of the specifics as of 2012 products produced.

I don't have time to cook on all the equipment I already own.  But a Big Easy fryer of some type is on the wish list.  If I do get one, you'll be the first person I call.  For the help, and to finally get those cookbooks.

I've even seen that same unit with a 'Butterball' label on it..    "Oil-less turkey fryer"

The Butterball oil less turkey fryer (at least the one Academy sells) is made by Masterbuilt. It is an electric model and cooks using "radiant" heat. Academy had a turkey cook for the customers right before Thanksgiving and cooked on TBE and the Butterball, both had good results.

I think the Thermos branded Big Easy is what they sell in Canada? The original Grill2Go model was branded as Thermos before the Grill2Go Ice came out branded as Char-Broil.
