Pork in the BEESR
« Reply #-1 on: December 27, 2011, 05:12:37 PM »
Second cook in the BEESR.  Still problems even though the Butt came out perfect.  I started at 15 to heat and then put the butt in on 15 for over an hour.  Smoke never started.  Temp window never operated correctly.  Set it for 200 and it started at 260 on current and never changed except for jumping back and forth a few degrees.  Never showed internal temp.  Changed to another.  Lowered to 11 for a couple of hours and to 8 for some time. Total of 9 hours.  Pulled at 200 degrees IT and wrapped in foil.  Didn't have any smoke flavor because it never smoked.  However it was tender and delicious.  Calling CB...Phil

Phil,  get you another unit.  Sounds like yours  not working right.  Both of mine fire the pellets in 15 mins or less no problem.

I will ask just for info, are you using an ex-cord?  If so size and length.

Like I have said before I use (if needed) a size 10 guage that's 10 feet long but I prefer not to use a cord if possible.

Meat looks great by the way!

I wish Char-Broil would get things right before they hit market instead of modifying and tweaking the units as complaints occur......not hating.......just sayin......

Yes, I will be calling them today.  I am using a 10 FT cord with size 12 wire.  Can't get it closer to the outlet.  I also, after the cook, fired it up on 15 for over an hour and the pellets weren't even dark.  These hickory pellets came from CB....Phil

I think I'm gonna wait on the BEESR..I'm seeing too many problems. I will hang in for a while to see if they clear up. Will wait until they have the next discount. I do like the electric tho. Pam ★*˚°。°

You are right, let me do the tinkering then they can finish the product!      8)

No really, I bet half of the BEESR's don't have problems I bet it's a user thing.  I'm not knocking anyone just saying that some folks (not saying Phil or anyone here) don't understand how to use an electric grill or they don't understand that you can't use a #14 gauge ex-cord to do the job of a #12 or a #10.

I know there are a few units that are bad but I wonder how many are not.  All I know is I have used 2 BEESR's and neither one worked well with a #14 or a #12 ex-cord, but both worked great with my #10 cord and just the cord it came with.

Thats a good thought.  In theory the #12 should be OK but I'll place it near the outlet w/0 the cord and see it it turns the pellets to smoke.  I'll do that before calling CB.  If it works properly, I'll build a cord with # 10 and make it about 8 ft.  Thanks  Phil

I am doing my first cook in my BEESR right now. It is not too cold out, mid 40's, I am not using an extension cord, I have two butts in.  I have my BEESR on a setting of 10, and according to my Maverick the cooking chamber is at 207 degrees after two hours.  Now as far as I can tell from reading the paperwork with the BEESR, a setting of 10 should be 400 degrees.  I don't mind a temp of 207 degrees as I am smoking butts Low and Slow, but this does not seem right to me.
