Pulled the trigger on a SRG today
« Reply #-1 on: March 31, 2014, 09:49:15 PM »
After enjoying a TBE for awhile I thought I would try the SRG. I have been a Tommy fan for years and watching him others making some killer stuff on the SRG.I think I will like the temperature control and the smoking ability. I see some don't like it because they don't get enough smoke. I think that's what we might need. As we get older it seems to take less smoke. I know I have smoked on my TBE with a Tommy ring and the smoke was about right.

jj, You're gonna love it.   I never mess with the temp...too lazy and ain't smart 'nough.  Listen to Tommy for accurate info.  The SRG is so versatile it's unbelievable.  It puts the best lookin' grill marks on a steak than anything I've seen. Watch and don't keep the lid down too long.  Just till you get the color you want. I've cooked some baked potatoes and left the lid down until they looked like charcoal.  Also don't have grill on when cooking in the chamber.  Tried that with the lid down too and boy I burnt somethin' else.  So you can see what I don't mess with the temp nob.  Listen to Tommy and you can't go wrong. I love mine, everything I've tried has come out perfect. Did pulled pork yesterday, 3 hours of smoke in the Bradley and straight to the SRG till it hit 185, FTC'd and it was perfect. Dee is right if Tommy says do it this way, do it that way and you can't go wrong, he's helped me master mine in short order.

Your gonna love that srg..just can't go wrong with it. Like Dee, I don't mess with the hi/low. just cook on high till I get the color I want and it works for me. I have a tbe, srg and a beesr, can ya tell I like them? I'm finding that hubby doesn't like a lot of smoke any more so I had to adjust. I married an older gentleman so gotta do what I gotta do. He's older than Dee even. I was the girl toy when I got married.  lol.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Congrats!  Love my SRG's and I want to add to the stable but Kimmie thinks I lost my mind.  :D

There are a lot of folks here to help if you need it but I think you know your way around TBE so it's just a big step up

Love my SRG. Best potato baker, amazing chicken, fantastic ribs using 3-2-1 method.  Not great at smoking, even with the tommy ring mod, but as my family enjoys a kiss of smoke, this cooker is a keeper. Post a few cooks for us!

I love mine as well. I've had it for a little over a month and have used it over a dozen times already.

I think it makes the best grilled chicken I have ever had. Fill that smoker box up and it produces a good level of smoke for a nice wood-fired grilled chicken.

Seasoning her now....can't believe how big it is compared to the original TBE. Looks like the basket does sit higher off the bottom and it does have a enamel coated cooking grate. One problem I do have is the igniter knob just spins instead of striking. I'll give them a call tomorrow......just do it the old way, by hand.
