Title: LTBBQ EXCLUSIVE
Post by: abcbarbecue on November 04, 2016, 02:53:31 PM
As a big thanks for the warm welcome we've received from everyone at Let's Talk BBQ we'd like to offer you a deal.  Over the past year or so we've slowly been collecting Slow 'N Sears that are used but in perfect working condition.  Some of these are returns and a few of them are prototypes of the Slow 'N Sear Plus.  We can't promise what you're going to get other than it will be a fully functional, defect free Slow 'N Sear... that might have a base plate!

If you do get one with a base plate it will either be a used SnS+ or a prototype.  Some of the prototypes have plates that were bolted on.  All prototypes are 16 Gauge 304 SS, so no worries you'll get something that's inferior to the standard SnS.

I have the Weber 18.5 ...I take it it won't work in that?

Does the REAL one have a base plate on it?

Ordered, although I had to have it sent to SWMBO's sister in California to save a bunch on shipping so I won't get it until Christmas. Since we'll be gone from before Thanksgiving until then that's not a big deal.

Not sure what you mean by real. The units we're offering as a deal to the LTBBQ readers are just as real as our new off the shelf products.  They're just used and in some cases have a prototype plate on them.  All prototype models should last just as long as the production Slow 'N Sears.  They were made well, just too expensive to produce in quantities.

The Slow 'N Sear does not have a base plate.  The Slow 'N Sear Plus does have a base plate.

The Slow 'N Sear Plus is the one you want, IMHO.  That is what my wife bought me for my birthday.  I love it!!  I love her, too!!!

Same question.  And do you have proto types for the 26 kettle?

I'll bet the base plate was used to hold the charcoal in place.  Since the unit is sitting on the grate, there is no need for the base plate.  Without the plate the air flow should be unrestricted.
But what do I know?  I'm just a backyard jack.

I added a bottom plate to mine for a couple of reasons.  The SnS stays in my Performer full time and I just keep adding fuel to it.  When the cook is done I kill the fire and reuse what’s left in the next cook.  I stir the old coals around so the ash falls off and add new.  The size of the holes control the size of the pieces of charcoal that fall through with the ashes.  When it didn’t have a bottom large pieces of charcoal would fall down with the ashes and I didn’t want to risk jamming them up between the sweepers and the holes.  Also, when I do a rotisserie cook I can just lift out the SnS with all the charcoal and use my Weber baskets; I don’t leave charcoal all over the charcoal grate.  So basically, having a bottom means I don’t have to handle used charcoal and I reduce the risk of damaging the sweepers.
I think this is more a preference thing and that’s probably why David offers it with and without a base plate.  Having the bottom suits me.

This is from their FAQ:

I have a 26" kettle - do you recommend I buy the Slow 'N Sear XL?

Not necessarily.  The original Slow 'N Sear works great in the 26" kettle (Click here for a thorough review from the Weber Kettle Club).  However, if you are consistently cooking large amounts of food, you may find the increased charcoal capacity will help you achieve longer unattended low 'n slow cooks.  Similarly, the larger charcoal basket will provide a larger sear area.

I just want to say that this is a great deal ! ! !

I have been using my standard SnS in my 26 for a couple of years now and really like it - even though I seldom use the "Sear" part.  I can easily fit 4 butts on my 26 with the SnS.

While I do wish that the 26 version was available when I bought mine, I agree that it would just mean that I;d only have one fuel refill as opposed to doing it twice when cooking butts.

Thanks, Dave ! ! !

Will do Rad.  This wasn't a discount, though.  We don't have the margin for discounts.  This was prototype units of the SnS+ and a few returns we got back from folks that bought an SnS right before the SnS+ came out.  We offered a two week window where customers could return their SnS for free to get the SnS+.

I only mention this as we don't want folks waiting for a sale.  There aren't any.  8)
