Title: Favorite Pellets
Post by: Chasinsparks on February 15, 2017, 06:03:19 PM
I'm sure this may have been asked before, but could not find it using the search. I know this is subjective but curious to see what is your favorite flavor/brand of pellets? Also, do you buy in bulk?

My favorite pellets are the Green Mountain Grill line-up. All are oak based. Gold blend. Fruit blend. Texas blend. They have also added a gourmet bag in a smaller bag for tailgaters.

Look for a GMG dealer near you and see what deals they have. I get the bags for 14 a pop from Eric over at The BBQ HQ in Simi Valley California. He delivers all over Southern California. I do not know where you are at. Just hit the GMG site and do a dealer search for your zip code.

The GMG bags are 28 lbs so I am paying .50 a lb.

Buying bulk is a great idea when you know what blend you like and you have a safe dry place to store the bags at................

I prefer CookinPellets 100% Hickory (for brisket) and Perfect Mix (for pork).  I live close enough to their manufacturing plant that I can drive there when needed.  Great pellets and nice people.

Depends on what you can find locally. I'm a bit limited in Minnesota.

Brands: I like the Lumberjack, BBQer's Delight & Cooking Pellets Perfect Mix.

Flavors: For general cooking I use mostly hickory or Apple (mixed with some oak).  I also like the Lumberjack "Competition Blend (Maple/Hickory/Cherry).

When I want to use my MAk for grilling, then I like the Lumberjack  Charblend Hickory (charcoal/Hickory blended pellet).

Price is a concern. If all the same BBQ delights then Green Mountain  then cooking pellets

Thanks all for the replies, was just curious what others were using, does not seem to an easy find around here. Will be doing an order from someone I'm thinking maybe 400-500 lbs. The only ones that I have used are the hickory BBQ delight and the Mak Hazelnut blend that came with my MAK 2 Star when purchased.

Check with Chris from CookinPellets.   They can get you a pretty good price on a skid full of pellets.
