Posts like this are never an easy to make.
A short while ago I got a call from Tim with sad news about one of our long time members, David R. Holly (drholly). David passed away about five weeks ago, on February 21, 2017.

David was a very good man. First got to know him a bit on the old Char broil forum and more so here. He truly will be missed. Prayers to his family from ours.

Very sad news indeed. I have known David through the forums for many years and feel like I lost a close friend even though we never met face to face

The Doc was a good man. Very sorry to hear that he passed. We never got to meet, but I felt like we were friends.

Looking at the comments in his obituary, he seemed like a great guy.

Hikerman actually found his obit - and forwarded it to me..I was shocked to my core. David and I had lunch in Stillwater MN only a couple of years ago, and we had kept in touch until the last few months...He had quit returning my calls, texts and e-mails....Now this. Really feel for his family and hope they will be o.k.

RIP DR..we chatted a lot and I watched your girls grow up... I was thinking something was wrong with the illness he had the his disappearance from here and FB. Peace for the family and everyone here that will miss him. .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Well that sucks. Such a young guy. Didn't know him except reading his posts. Didn't realize he was a fellow Minnesotan. R.I.P.

So sad to hear. Prayers to his family. David was such a good person and great cook. From some of his post I believe he did a lot of humanitarian work.

Very sad to hear of David's passing. Although I never met David, he has been a friend since the old CharBroil "Sizzle on the Grill" days. He was well traveled and took his family to some primitive and exotic places where they practice real outdoor cooking. He documented most of his travels in pictures and shared a lot of them with us on the forum. I will miss his presence here. Rest in peace, DR Holly.

So sad to hear. I reached out to Tim a couple of weeks ago wondering about David. Whenever someone goes "silent" for a bit, I check their profile to see the date of their last activity on the forum. It had been a while since he was active.
I am gonna miss D-Holly very much. :'( :'(

Although I didn't know him I do feel for his family. I had only seen a handful of his posts here and there but I knew he was a revered member of this forum. May he rest in peace.

I am stunned. David was one of best and I'm going to miss him. I greatly regret that we never got to meet in person. God be with his family and close friends in their loss.

Oh dear, that's terrible news. :( I always loved reading David's posts and hearing about his abundant love for his family. Rest in Peace, dear David.

Like Hub, I am stunned.
David was always encouraging and helpful as I was learning the ways of outdoor cooking.
We talked on the phone several times...seems like the last time was before Christmas.
So sorry to hear this.

I have never met David but have known him since the days on the Char-Broil forum.
He was a wonderful man and father. Loved his family and always posted pictures of his daughters eating his meals he cooked.
He will be missed greatly and a small piece of my heart was lost with this news...

It amazes me how we can not personally know somebody, yet through years on the forum, you feel like you do. We have lost Phil and now D-Holly. I miss them both very much..................

You can't help but be nice ;). I was asking Tee about David just the other day. Sad to think I thought of him and he's gone.
Phill and David will both be missed like family :(

I do hate to hear this David was a good man. We had talked on the phone several times in the last couple of years.We had a connection because we had been through some of things.He was a good man and a good father.
