Title: Thermoworks mk4 (should I?)
Post by: FrugalQ on April 27, 2017, 07:24:55 PM
Ok I've been kicking this idea around a lot. I have a 733 that I use on all long cooks and a cheap instant digital that reads in 5-6 seconds. Is the thermoworks that much better??  Mk4 is on sale for around 80, and classic pens are 59. Also in the conversation is the pop. Opinions from owners greatly appreciated. And everyone else's opinion is always welcome. Best BBQ group around.

I have the original and the MK4. The enhancements they made to the MK4 are awesome. I only trust my Thermoworks and nothing else. If you should have an issue the company is second to none on service. My old Thermopen was acting strange. They asked me to mail it to them. They replaced it with a new one even though it was out of warranty. I have also sent one in to be recalibrated. You really can't miss with this company.

I have both the original and the new MK4 and they are both great thermometers.  For $80, I would go with the MK4.

I have the original one also. No problems and I, like Pappy, only trust Thermoworks. Their customer service is fantastic. I messed up one of my high heat probes for the Smoke and they replaced it, even though it was my fault. Can't beat that!

In a word, yes, it is that much better.
O.K. not one word.  :D :D

Seriously, I have several other thermometers that I never touch since I purchased my MK4.

It is "almost" instantaneous.

I highly recommend the MK4.  Get the Red one as it is the fastest of all of the colors.  ;)
