Title: Back to Charcoal
Post by: smokeasaurus on March 01, 2013, 07:59:33 PM
Well, at least for grilling. Dr cleared me for work on Monday with 3 weeks light duty. She gave me the hairy eyeball when I mentioned Queing and I said "But the patties are only 4 oz each, that is light duty" (http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/funny%20icons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Seasoned the patties with Garlic Garni from the Garlic Capital of the World (Gilroy,California) and Tatonka Dust from Owens BBQ
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/001-15_zps82477bbd.jpg)

Oh yeah, I used Kingsford lighter fluid...fire in the hole
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/002-21_zps2efa5aea.jpg)

I am going to bolt the grill grates to the Weber grate since Old Smokey is my main grilling rig. On they go.....

Nice sear marks, the Rec Tec and Yoder just cant do em like this........

Pepper Jack cheese, Steak Tomaters, onion, ketchup and mustard
(http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/005-10_zps196873c4.jpg)

Yup, I did this   (http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc469/s1cott11/funny%20icons/eat.gif)

I have to admit, I am a bit tuckered out right now so an early bed-time tonight...........

bolt the grill grates to the plain 21" OldSmokey grill
and save the Weber grill for in-direct cooks
so you can use the hinged grill if you need it

Great looking burgers Smoke!

Although some pellet grills can actually grill...

I am going to have to run the Memphis up to 600F and throw some burgers on there to show you what she can do ;)

I can take out the drip pan in the Yoder and add the grill grates and could get my sear on but the space is limited, maybe -3- steaks tops.

I just did a cheap pack of legs on the OldSmokey, straight up charcoal
just a pile of coal in the middle and the legs on the grill, skin side up
set the vents to run at around 300°
sauced the legs at 45'min
off at 1hr
SOooooo much better flavor than on the CB RED gasser !!

the other thing I'm lovin' about the OldSmokey
when you finish the cook, if you close all the vents
the OldSmokey is so tight that it will extinguish the charcoal
and you can save the leftovers for the next fire  (http://i50.tinypic.com/20ztyfl.gif)

I laid some HD foil on the bottom and poked the foil for the vent holes to breath and that layer of foil is good for -2- cooks. I just brush off the charcoal grate and the foil gets rolled up and the bottom of the Old Smokey is as clean as a whistle. The bottom should last forever that way...........

Since I am back to charcoal, I tossed on some Rib-eyes seasoned with Garlic Garni and Pappys Prime Rib Rub.  Captain, I got the grill grates bolted to the Old Smokey grate, worked out nice ...Yoder pooper is on deck for tomorrow.........

Thanks for the concern. I don't do much all day and as soon as I am done at the grill, I am back down again..besides Dr.Campbell and Nurse Good -Body love BBQ and gave me grilling clearance.
