Title: I may need help!
Post by: LostArrow on March 08, 2012, 04:54:16 PM
I'm obsessing about a new cooker, a chargriller kamodo ( yes I know they make cheap offsets , had one several years ago)
It's cheap for a kamodo $299, I think it'll last a long time , the cooking chamber is a slide in insert , so if it burns out its easily replaced leaving the main body protected from high heat.
I DO NOT need this , my deck is crowded with lots of cookers.
For overnite cooks I've got 3 vertical charcoal smokers that will all go all nite between 215F & 250F without touching,
I've got 2 really good charcoal grills.
But I WANT a new toy & I've never had the money to get a BGE.
What do I do :o

LA, This is their new one...Not ceramic but supposed to cook as well as one with half the weight. I do not have any feedback on them as we have not sold one yet. It does look sturdy but you will have to buy the heat shield to do low and slow as it does not come with this one.

Ron have you seen one , only seen video's.
I'd just use a cast iron pie pan as a heat shield.

I have checked around the web and it's gotten pretty good reviews across the board. Owners claim it can crank up to 450 for grilling and run at low steady temps for smoking.

Great price as well.  Will the unit be large enough to handle your cooking needs LA??

LA, we have them in our store. (I work for Lowe's) Looks good and seems well made, lid locks down to keep heat in. Seems to be a good one for the price.

One of the Lowe's reviews said a heat diffuser will be available from Char-Griller in April.

I DO NOT need this , my deck is crowded with lots of cookers.

So?  To my knowledge there is no regulation governing the number of cookers one may have.  The only limit on my cooker purchases has been my wife.  She is currently having difficulty understanding why I need an FEC-100.  She also doesn't understand why I salivate over the new Memphis Elite and MAK 4-Star.  I only have five cookers.  The outdoor kitchen IS getting a little crowded, but there is expansion room if we tear down part of the house.  I just don't understand her sometimes.

Well thought unit.  Before you pull the trigger ya might want to check with Char-griller on the life of the two gaskets they use. Down the road they will probably have to be replaced and you might want to see if they are available and grab a set to have on hand. You might not need them for a while but it would stink if they are not available years from now. Ya know how these companies discontinue these and then if ya cant get parts...just sayin.............

Enjoy your vacation and maybe you can help Tommy show Dee how to post pictures!!!!  ;D
