Just a dumb charcoal question
« Reply #-1 on: October 29, 2012, 04:58:24 PM »
I use a chimney starter with my new Weber. My Weber is on a deck up in the air. The first chimney of coals is easy as I set the chimney on the grill grate. But when I need to make more, I set the chimney on my deck inside a couple of aluminum pans. Not happy with that solution, so I was wondering if their is something like a charcoal chimney tray so I don't burn my deck down?

Any thought is appreciated.

Not that I know of... a couple of cinder blocks and a half sheet pan under the chimney works for me.

I have always added unlit charcoal to burning charcoal for long cooks...to keep a Weber choogling along under 300 degrees,I used to add -8- coals every hour..........

and the only dumb question is the ones I ask!!  :D :D

Pap - that was actually a practical aspect of cooking question - not dumb at all....and - it appears you got some great advice for a solution to the issue too!

I use my turkey fryer to start my coals so I usually just let the chimney stay on it after I turn off the burner, otherwise, I use a Weber smokey Joe.
