KCBS Judge Certification

Just became a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) certified judge yesterday!!! Got my certification in time to be one of the judges for the 5th Annual BBQ, Blues & Brews on the bay Festival at The Mill Casino in Coos Bay Oregon. Today will be filled with tastings some great barbecue and washing it down with one (or more) samplings of the 30 Craft Beers and listening to live Blues ... Judging begins tomorrow at noon.

Congratulations!!  My wife and I are both KCBS judges.  We use it for a travel excuse, every now and then.

Congratulations on becoming a judge!  Now, work hard at being a good one!  It is a lot of fun but also a responsibility.  I write for the KCBS Bull Sheet -- often about judging specifically but always about the philosophy of good competition.  My June column will be about how to do comment cards gracefully and with credibility.

Thanks everyone. I had a blast and ate some delectable barbecue!! They had over 45 teams. Learned a lot and looking forward to my next judging down the road.
