I have considered trying grill grates but I don't feel like they are needed for this grill. Searing on this grill comes from the infrared energy on the diffuser and not the grates themselves.
And as far as pellets are concerned I suppose they might work once it is going but you would be adding pellets way too much. Also the air flow is not as much as a pellet grill.
