Tomato container gardening
« Reply #-1 on: August 20, 2016, 10:02:21 AM »
Because of too many tall trees in our yard, we only get diffused sunlight and it's hard to grow vegetables.
I plant my tomatoes in 2 bucket containers and keep them out front where we get lots of sun. This is my best crop ever.
I only grow heirloom tomatoes.

This ones falling over with tomatoes.

These beauties are all about one and a half pounds each and there is about 10 of them on the vine.

The trick is to use egg shells, coffee grounds, Epson salts and good manure.
If you only have a small sunlit area then this is a way to have great tomatoes. It's a little late for this year but if anyone's interested about how to do it then I would gladly help you.

Hey nice work with the container garden!
I'm trying that on a small scale as it's my first year in containers. We needed a new septic system 3 years ago, and the county codes required a baffle system that took up 85% of our back yard. As a result no in-ground gardens. ???
I killed 2 containers of tomatoes (with kindness) and replaced one. Also have basil, and rosemary.

Yes, please give more details on your method.  Such things as amounts and frequency of the coffee, soil used, etc.  Also, do you cut drain holes in the container?

The tomatoes so far

lots of sweet 100's coming on

Im using potting soil and mulch.water morning and night.Every few days I use water from aquaponic tanks. So far pretty good, fair production, late start. Will do again next year as economical on water use,and easy to fertilize, has real potential.

Feel free to share my pictorials anywhere you like.Could mention from Spuds if you remember.
