Turkey rub help

My first t-day with the smoker. Done a lot of chicken And love the way it turns out. But usually go a little sweeter with the rubs. Not sure I want a sweet turkey. How would you rub it?

simple marvelous spicy apple.  or try their cherry rub.  outstanding.

I prefer a rub without sugar for my higher temp poultry cooks. This one works well on turkey.

RUB...This rub has no sugar and will not brown or burn at any temp. Most of these ingredients can be found in many kitchens.

1 TBl Salt
1 TBL Paprika
2 tsp Onion powder
2 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tsp White pepper

Thanks, Dave. I'm going to use your rub for the turkey this Thanksgiving. If you recommend it, it has to be great.

I like Dave's recipe too!  And sometimes I will use a " traditional blend " of flavors from my family history:

1-1/2 tsp to 1 Tlbl Sea Salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Savory
1/2 - 1 tsp Rosemary
1/2 tsp Thyme
1/8 tsp yellow curry
You can vary the amounts to your particular tastes of course. And - you can grind a small amount to powder - add to liquified butter, and inject into the turkey breasts as well.

We usually stuff the turkey with citrus fruit. preferably Oranges that you have cut in half after partially zesting. Then add zest to taste to the rub.......

This is one of those "brings back memories" group of aromas and tastes for me. :)

Might have to give my guests options and do it a couple different ways.  If I spatchock it and placed the turkey over the oranges In one of those  aluminum half pans would it be about the same as stuffing it?  Or I could debone it and wrap it up with oranges stuffed inside.

Those Simply Marvelous rubs are on the Xmas list. Been being extra good this year so hopefully Santa will treat me good.

If you cut it in half, you can make two totally different recipes side-by-side.  If you spatchcock it, you can cook it on a rack over a pan of stuffing to catch the drippings in the stuffing.
