Spatchcock chicken was my first. Easy and delicious.

Some people will cook biscuits from the can. Spread them round the grill to judge for hot spots.

Pig candy is traditional for a first cook. A superstition thing.......

Spatchcock chicken is a method of preparing the chicken.  You cut the back bone out of the chicken to flatten it.  You can search for pictures on it here.(or the Internet). Pig candy is thick sliced bacon with sugar on it.( or Super Pig seasoning) on it. Either brown or white sugar...I also add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.

While we're on the subject of pig candy....Not to age me :D....but does anyone remember Gomer Pyle USMC?  I remember watching his show when I was like 9 or 10 and he was cooking for a General and half way thru cooking some bacon he sprinkled sugar on it.  That stuck with me over the years and I had done it often.  I do believe that was the first " pig candy"!

If it is your first cook of any kind, please read:

As to what to cook, I'll second the votes for seasoning your cooker with a big batch of bacon if you haven't seasoned it already.  It gets the job done and you get to eat all you want!

Seriously,  have a ball.  Lots of things are kind of "forgiving" and easier to cook and you'll see lots of great recipes and approaches posted here.  Pork butts are good, relatively easy cooks and chicken thighs stay moist and tasty even if you overdo them a bit.

bacon should be your first.  I however didn't know that 3 plus years ago, and after initial burn in, I just did brats and drumsticks.  Turned out great!
