Mo Rockin Chicken Soup
« Reply #-1 on: November 05, 2013, 10:21:32 PM »
Between whatever is plaguing my body and the meds I am taking, my blood sugars are way out of whack. I checked at about noon - only 45 - not good...  ??? Better eat something pretty quick. But, I haven't been to the store today, so it has to be cupboard fare. I found a pack of Mrs. Grass Chicken Noodle Soup. Well, I need to "soup" that up a bit. So, instead of the 8 cups of water in the directions, I added 6 cups of chicken broth and a can of cream of chicken and a can of cream of mushroom soup. I also found a can of chicken breast as well as a can of mushrooms (this IS a cupboard based meal...  8) ) I did raid the freezer for some frozen corn, carrots and peas (my wife reacted the same way you are Pappy...  ;) ;D ) But, I like peas. Mixed it all together and heated it up - it wasn't bad. But then, an inspiration - add some Mo Rockin Chicken rub - whoa! What a difference. This went from a typical cupboard based soup to something really good. I need to buy some more in a bigger container - this will be the key ingredient of any chicken dish - it's not just for rubbin' any more!

Doc... You know 45 is not a good number!! I'm IDDM and try to keep it around 110... 3 units of Lantus bid (more if needed due to carb loading).

When I was in the hospital last year for pulmonary issues I was on Prednisone which  really wacked out my glucose... they gave me too much insulin and I crashed at 10!! That was not a good thing!

Chef - Prednisone is the culprit here as well. They have me on this to deal with the unknown whatever that is swelling my face and throwing rashes all over me. While in the hospital, my glucose was going from 50 to 300 and back over and over. It was finally stabilized at about 105 - 115 and has been pretty good since. But, if I skip a meal or something, it can drop pretty quick. I check 3 - 4 times a day, but have to admit, I am not good at remembering to eat when I should. Hence the problem. If I take the meds and keep the schedule it's pretty stable.
