What to do when the power goes out...
« Reply #-1 on: November 18, 2013, 12:38:28 AM »
... lots  ;D  We started the day planning to do lots of activities, including getting the beef into the smoker for jerky.  However to start the day, it's hot tub-ing time with Champagne mimosas (we substitute pomegranate juice for the citrus).  Hash browns and eggs don't hurt either.  The bad part - we lost power for most of the day, and had to "rough it"

Nothing like Champagne on a cold morning, especially when you can enjoy it in the hot tub.  The only problem: I have a sensitivity to something in the water, and cannot join my sweetie in the water.  I can only enjoy from the sidelines

... however, I can enjoy the hash browns and eggs  :)

... got the beef jerky started on the smoker - Big Chief - before I'm chastised for using a low level smoker like that, I have been using that machine for the past couple of decades or so.  It was the only smoker I could afford at the time, and only cost me $49 at the time - then.... today the power went out  :'(

Started to become cold inside (37F outside) so we built a fire in the wood stove

Nice and toasty inside snuggled in our blankies reading books for most of the afternoon - with hot toddies, of course  ;D

... became hungry for snacks so plated cheese, pate, and homemade bread

... now becoming dark outside, we've a couple of plates by our recliners

All in all, we had a perfect day, quite memorable in the sense that we were off the grid and had to make do with what we could.  Sitting side by side with my sweetie while reading by the cracking fire is a memory that I'll carry forever.  It might be strange to some, but I personally treasure moments like this much more than anything else

My wife would be shopping for a back-up power generator as soon as the power returned ::)

Looks like a good day for you pz!

And it is not the smoker but the operator that makes the difference. Nothing wrong with that Little Chief ;)

Chastise? No, I'd say that was a pretty good investment to have a smoker last that long. Big chief smokers are classic. I'm actually looking at one to modify and use with my pellet grill.

So, did you get to finish your jerky?

Really sorry that you had to suffer through that. That is really rough "n" it. Sometimes you just need a day like that to remind you of everything that you would miss.

All in all everything looks great but one question.

If you had no power how did you post this, lol. Just funning.
