Smoke, you are going to have sticker shock when you start looking at real estate prices up there, but in a very good way. Real estate up there is even much less than my part of Alabama and Alabama has about the lowest property taxes in the country. The real estate agents are going to be slobbering at the mouth when they find out you are bringing CA money into AL to buy a house and they are going to be showing you the most expensive things they can find. I have had family that moved from CA to AL and been involved with a couple of companies who moved their operations from CA to TN. Not sure what you have now but you should be easily be able to find twice what you have now for much less than half the price. Only down side is that I think Dekalb county is still a dry county but Ft Payne can sell booze in the city limits.

My only experience with a dry county was in Texas when I ate at the Salt Lick. You could bring your own hooch to drink, but they couldn't sell it.

You my friend are asking all the right questions. I've never understood any of this since moving south  ???. When I lived in Milton FL back in the early 90’s it was a dry county but I could buy booze on base  8) ::). Now that I live in Pensacola I can’t buy on Sundays until after 1PM  ???, which doesn’t make any since at all  ::). By that time I've already gone through what was left from Saturday and really, really, am I safe to drive to get more?  ??? :o ::)
Love to cook and eat

In California our politics suck but unlike the drinking water we do keep that alcohol flowing.

The only "dry" counties we have are due to the lack of rain ;)

Fort Payne Alabama in Dekalb County.  Gonna get some clean country air in our lungs. She is a LVN so she can get work anywhere.....Old Smoke is gonna take it easy and fill the Alabama air with Pecan Smoke every evening........

Wendy is from Iowa and I have never liked all this concrete and traffic and smog......we are going Country my friends....hopefully later this year..round Autumn.......
Well heck you won't be but 50 min drive from my house (here in God's country)!   You would fit right in
