Martini made special...

... with pickled garlic.  I know... I know... sounds a bit strange, but we tried these as a substitute for cocktail onions after a friend gave us a jar last Christmas and were hooked.  These are so good I actually eat them as a pickled snack.

They look great but I would not be allowed to eat them. I was told to stop eating garlic stuffed olives.  ;D
Love to cook and eat

I would be and I love my garlic stuffed olives. I also like the jalapeno and garlic stuffed ones that you
can get at Costco maybe twice a year.

I could drown a couple of those in a martini.  At least once.  I prefer the blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini most of the time.

I'm with ya on those blue cheese stuffed olives.  I like to start with pimento stuffed olives, push out the pimentos and stuff with fresh blue cheese.

My Martini skewer always has alternate blue cheese olives (2) and pickled garlic (at least 3 cloves depending on size)

I haven't made them myself, but a colleague gave his recipe to my wife, who just tried making them the other day - looks really simple.  The pickling takes the harsh bite out of the garlic, and makes them quite flavorful.

Spicy hot garlic
  • 5 cups vinegar
  • Three-quarter cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons hot chili flakes
  • 2 teaspoons mustard seed
  • 2 teaspoons dill weed
  • 8 cups garlic
Cosco has bags of garlic. Cut off attachment end and anything imperfections

In a large pan combine ingredients boil over high heat

Add garlic return to boil

Simmer uncovered two minutes

Pour into jar with the jars hot the lids hot and hot rings

pack with garlic

Put lids and hot rings on jars snugly.  As they cool the lid will pop and they are sealed

Awesome, pz, that sounds really interesting!   Thanks so much for sharing the pickled garlic recipe-- got that bookmarked for later.  :)   Do you know about how long you let them mellow in the jar before using?

I'm notoriously bad for breaking into the foods right away, so it wasn't even cold yet before I started in on them.   ;D

We had the Martinis the same day and the garlic was still really good, but I expect it to become even better with age.
